Warm Water Fly Swap 2013/2014

I'm on it, don't mind testing new patterns one bit. :)

I will definitely test it out for you. I have a farm pond with a decent population of LMB that I fish on occasion. I have been looking for a bluegill pattern to use there. Those big old bucketmouths love to suck in those little 'gills. Come to think of it, lv2nymph's foam frog could provide some great entertainment there as well. Really looking forward to seeing all these WW flies. Good stuff!

Just saw those for the first time on another site recently...good stuff.

Loving the pics...this keeps getting better and better.

Decided on a pattern finally. Gonna tie a slight variation of Nick Granato's ghetto tramp in a size two. Going with craft fur in a dubbing loop or brush for the head instead of ostrich but aside from that it will be tied pretty much as he ties it.

Norm, that one looks good. That color is always a winner with the bass.

Chartreuse is just magic in general...

Sweet John. Looking forward to catchin me some carp on those guys.

I'll get on the bench and crank out my flies this week. I have a few ideas for something new. I have been busy with holiday stuff and my daughter wanting to play with every single new toy she got for Christmas.

Flies are on the way.

thanks for hosting this swap and for allowing me to join in

okay, I'll keep this thread updated as the flies come in.
oh, and dc410, I've already tied up two dozen of those crayfish for the Erie carp box I'm building, six each in sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8.

Snipe,

Keep me posted on how you do with them. I just started to learn the carpin' game this past summer and this pattern produced very well. I only ever tied them in size 6 - although I often thought a size 4 would be good and a bit easier to see. I also thought about replacing the rust dubbing with olive and changing the antennae and flash to a more greenish color to make more of an olive version.

I caught carp site fishing these flies when the fish were in their classic "mudding" ritual by just setting the fly down in front of them and waiting for them to work to it or occasionally giving it a very short strip to entice them with that little puff of silt. I also caught cruising carp at longer distances in deeper water when the fish were visible higher in the water column. I would lay a long cast out in front of the fish - close enough for them to see and/or hear it enter the water but not too close to spook them. Watching them turn toward the fly and watching the end of the fly line to move before setting the hook. Those long distance hook ups with good size carp are a blast and a serious adrenaline rush! Good luck.
