The Spotburning Thread

I agree with pat and salmonoid, want to protect the interests of guys who have given me stream info and reports.

Also, in my opinion, there are small streams with good fish populations that could take a temporary hit in the number of relatively big fish from harvesters, however they fish. For whatever reason -- too far out there, too small to bother with, there really arent that many guys who fish small streams in the first place, hidden in plain sight, etc -- some of these streams now appear to get lower pressure than they might get with PAFF publicity. I am not saying that no one else fishes them now, just that fishing might be less fun if more people kept the bigger fish they caught or just a lot of fish from a few of my favorites.

But fishing is more fun with guys to hit streams with... Once the weather warms up a bit, I want to fish small streams, often for brookies but I like wild browns too, within bout 2 hours of philly... I can often go sat sun tues or thurs, pm me if you want to go hiking, find some fish, and swap stories about snakes, bears, and the (relatively) big ones that got away. Hope it warms up soon.

If you purchase a camera just to post stream reports, you have a whole other set of issues I won't even begin to address.

I purchased a camera just for fishing. I often post those pics in stream reports. That's not to say stream reports are my only use for the pics, though. I have a folder full of fishing pics, and subfolders for each trip. When cabin fever gets serious, I sit down and re-live past trips, and find that enjoyable.

Not to get off topic, but...

I have a "just fishing" camera too...that was purchased just for that purpose. Not necessarily to post pics in reports, but I do post fish pics occasionally...sometimes even naming the stream from which they came, if I feel it's appropriate. It's a small, $80 Sanyo...but it takes decent enough pictures at close range, which is all I really look for it to do. It struggles with wider, "scenery" shots though.

Wanted something compact and relatively replaceable for when (not if) it takes a dunking. Fits in the front pocket on the strap of my sling pack.

I like keeping a log of my pics too. I have folders for each of the streams I fish...I like studying the different spot and color patters in different streams and watersheds. As pcray mentioned, good for those long, cold Winters too.

If it is just for fishing, it isn't just for stream reports.

I think everyone who fishes regularly has a "fishing" camera. I do not think most people who fish bought a camera just for stream reports. If there is anyone who has please raise your hand so i can immediately make fun of you.

I have (had) a just fishing camera also. Its just not worth buying a large priced hq camera just to have it get trashed or drop it in the water. Decent digital cameras are fairly cheap and last long enough to make it worthwhile.

And spot burning? really? the bait boys and the illegals and the pollution are messing up the trout streams....... not the fly guys! The "trashing bait chuckers" don't read the fishing reports on this site!!?? LOL

How do you know the "trashing bait chuckers" don't read the fishing reports on this site?? Have you spoken to all of them??? There are a lot of unregistered users who visit this site so it is very possible some of those users are "trashing bait chuckers."

Don't underestimate the power of the internet.

I've always been in favor of making the stream reports, and maybe the stream locations sections members only. The OT forum is members only.

It'd allow us to be a little more free with sharing of info. As it is now, most of that activity goes on behind the scenes via PM.

I'm not going to stereotype the types of people I don't want having certain info. I'd agree percentages tilt in fly fishermen's favor, but there are lots of good bait guys out there, as well as some slobbish fly fishermen. The bottom line is that, while many of us ARE willing to share stream info with members of the forum, we're not necessarily willing to open it up to the entire world, and have it be google-able.

Add me to the crew with "issues" in this regard as well. Waited for a deal so I can get one I can afford to lose in a soaking "incident." As life seems to go, I have never dunked it, but being cheap, I also have it in a weatherproof ammunition box that hangs around my neck.

I photograph scenery, historic structures and signs, some of the fish caught, many of folks I fish with. Like others, I organize them in my file/folder structure:

Jack,

How much did this run you or did you not buy it? I imagine its fairly light weight also.

Jack if you could read, you wouldn't have so many problems.

I said
If you purchase a camera just to post stream reports, you have a whole other set of issues I won't even begin to address.

To break that down more i said
If you purchase a camera just to post stream reports

I never said "If you have a camera just for fishing"

Maybe that is why you have such are hard time responding to arguments that blow your positions out of the water, you can't read.

Can't play both sides of that one dude.

Based on the number of reports of guys saying they saw it on here, based on the number of reports on here about it AFTER the initial glory posts by all sorts of guys who said "fished it for the first time" etc.

Does that count? ^

Swattie,

I've posted this before, but the site owner says that this site gets about 170,000 (that's not a typo) uniques. We have just over 5,000 members. If every member had 3 computers, it'd still only be 15,000 uniques. Alot more people read this website than you think. ALOT more.

Once my wife asked to borrow my stream reports camera and I told her before she took it to my daughters Homecoming dance that she would need to quickly hold the subject in the left hand, extending the tail up along the arm and just before pressing the button stretch out the fingers hoping the happy couple didn't flip out before the shutter closes.

My fingers are quite the hero around here.

I used to believe in Santa Claus. Then I grew up.

To the people with all the rude comments this songs for you.........

About as much as assuming all the "anonymous users" are all "trashing bait chuckers."

And yes, I've seen those statistics, multiple times. I'm not disputing the numbers. I'm disputing the assumptions drawn from them...in this case, that a significant portion of them are gut rippers. Is it possible, sure...but we don't know.
