This morning I caught my first fish on a fly that I tied!!! It was only a little 8” brown, but out of Valley it was very satisfying to have him take my zebra midge, as they are known to be selective in this creek. Didn’t have much luck after but it was enough to make my day.

Coming up on a year since I started fly fishing, I never would have thought that I would be tying my own flies let alone catching fish on them… I can’t wait to see where this addiction path takes me next

Congratulations!!

I caught mine on Section 04, of Ridley Creek on an ant I tied, directly under the Media Bypass bridge. It was a LONG, LONG time ago but it's a great feeling and I remember it well!

Save that fly. Put in in an epoxy resin. I still have mine. It's in a crude drink coaster I made. Coaster ain't worth the space it takes up. But the fly is a great memory. A size 10 light Cahill, (well my attempt at one anyway) it fooled a stocked brown on the Lehigh River 40 +years ago.

Congratulations. Definitely record it somehow as others mentioned above. I say that because I have no memory of what the first fish I caught on a fly I tied was. Don't remember the fly, don't remember the fish, don't remember the water.

Congratulations! I have the first nymph I tied and caught a trout on saved in a clear jar. It really is a neat feeling tricking a trout into eating something you tied!

Thank you everyone! And about the fly… it’s currently 20ft up a tree. Really wish I would have clipped it after the catch
Tie a red ribbon around the tree to make sure the tree isn’t cut down. This way you can memorialize your fly and memory.

Congratulations too! I get an extra thrill every time I catch a fish on one of my own flies.

Congrats, and many more to get hooked.
