woollybugger swap ever done?

I agree, let's keep this one alive. I'll take part, but my vote is it be the first one of 2008. The holidays are upon us and things will be getting crazy.

count me in for a olive green beadhead bugger

Count me in. I'll be tying a Xmas tree bugger.

Gotta agree with flyfishermanj on this one...with the holidays upon us things are going to be difficult to get them tied...at least for me anyhow. I'd love to get in on this one though.

I might be able to do it in december, but waiting til after new years wouldn't be a very bad idea IMO. Whatever the general consensus is, I guess.

whos keeping count of tiers and patterns?

Yes, but even if I were referring to an egg-sucking leech and not joking about Medi's ever so detailed and recipe-like fly name...an egg-sucking leech IS a wooley bugger AND wold qualify as a patter for the swap. Its a black bugger with pink or chartruse chenille at the head.

Now tell me thats not a bugger...

I went back through and compiled a list. I don't mind hosting again unless someone else would like to, if so let me know. Here is the list so far:

DJMyers
Cambyses
Tabasco_Joe - Chili Pepper
MediClimber - Olive Body, Black Marabou, Dun Hackle
JayL - Black body, Black tail, Olive hackle
Jaybo41
FlyFishermanJ
woolyBugger
BuckBarrett
PennsCreek - Olive with beadhead
Bruno - Xmas tree bugger

What do y'all think about a due date in Feb? Or should we shoot for a date in late Jan.?

I'll do it to make an even dozen...I vote for mid to late Jan. I vote we don';t do anything until after turkey day.

Hows the Caddis swap going...is someone photographing?

I haven't taken any photos yet. I am still waiting on 3 people to receive their ties. As far as I know I believe they have been sent just didn't get to me yet.

Mine is going to be a size 8

Have you ever fished the "micro" buggers? I have heard more people talking about them using sizes 18 or so.

I think that would qualify as a generic, do-all nymph...not a bad idea but not earth shattering.

I figured you were joking but I was going to try and find a little plastic cherry to tape on yours just for fun. :-D

I've just started concentrating on learning how to fish buggers. Once the water temp dropped below about 42 deg. on the streams I fish I seemed to get a lot of short strikes. I probably need to have a few Woolly Worms with short tails for those occasions.

For size I've settled down to two sizes, size 12 with just a tungsten bead and a size 8 with both lead wrap and a large brass bead.

I've also noticed a change in color preference (not mine, the fish) as the water temp dropped. White worked well until the low 40s when olive and dark brown kicked in. Maybe that's just me.

I'm anxious to try the Chilli Pepper version on Penns next spring. It seems a good match for the crawfish colors I see there.
