Why is there a wing case on a dry fly?

I've spent time tying up fly's like that. I found conventional fly's work as good or better...and "conventional" fly's are far easier to tie.
But that's my experience. Your milage may vary.

#18 flashback pheasant tails. I go through quite a few of these throughout the season.
Wow, authentic Jungle ****. Very nice. I only use my limited supply for streamers I plan on displaying.

Inquiring minds need to know. Especially so since it's a dry fly and very unlikely the trout can see the wing case on top.

In my opinion, 1/2, or probably 3/4 of the stuff we do with these flies are for the fishermen’s satisfaction, not the fish.
I may not be on his level of expertise but once in awhile I tie something so nice that I won't fish it.

Hi Normand Fréchette, I have to be honest this is the way it was done in the book I read and I have done it like this since, I just like tying it this way though when I have tyed it on the smaller sizes I just wound the body up as normal.. All the very best Davie..
