Shadow Fly Lines - How are they?

I don't have anything to add here, but after seeing the thread yesterday regarding their lines, I'm also curious. I'm in the market for a 4WT DT line and not trying to break the bank. Their factory overrun lines have piqued my interest.

I have 4 of them. I was looking to change since I heard good things about Cortland Peach. Comparing the 2, the weight and taper are pretty much the same. Dont see a reason to change, plus I like the color options.

I was a diehard Peach buyer for quite a while.. My last two sucked. At this point in time, Peach is dead to me.

Dear jifigz,

I'm pretty sure the $ 8.00 fly lines I buy from TEMU are the exact same lines without all the cool color choices. 😉

If you aren't always hucking 60' or 70' casts why pay more?

I still have 30-year-old Cortland Peach lines that work fine for me though. I buy the cheap lines for spares.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Tim,

Oftentimes, I would agree with you. However, I have had quite a few cheap fly lines that have sucked so bad that it made fly fishing unenjoyable. One was from Risen quite a few years ago. I hate to talk bad on that line since Ryan is a member here, even if we haven't see him for a while, but that line SUCKED. I also bought a Piscifun line off of Amazon one time that sucked royally. I have had some Cortland Fairplays and Scientific Angler AirCel lines that were great, though, and they are cheap.

I don't think I need a specialty fly line such as a "streamer" line or "Dry fly line," but I don't think all lines are of the same quality. Seriously, my last two Peaches have sucked BADDD.

I’m curious, Josh. What were the issues that made your last couple Peach lines so bad?

Well, I got my last Peach not even a year ago. I bought it right around my birthday, which is June 14, from Fly Fisher's Paradise in State College. The line sunk almost immediately, and now, less than a year later, the line is literally falling apart. It is cracking. It is shredded in places like a tattered rope.

I fish a lot, and I think you guys know that, and I put my trout lines through their paces, but I have never had a line fall apart like this.

On a separate note, I have a $50 gift card to Bass Pro, and I am heading past today. Their website shows that they have Scientific Anglers Mastery in stock. I think i will stop and pick that up today and give it a whirl.

I bought a shadow line early on in their existence after seeing ads here. I thought it performed well, but it cracked and deteriorated not much more than a year in.

There was someone associated with the company on here that offered a free replacement in a PM but I never gog anything. This was before the site changed and all messages lost.

I have heard better things lately about the brand, but I have good luck buying line steeply discounted on ebay, facebook marketplace etc.

They use the phrase "MADE in PA" on their website...

Someone is really making a $20 fly line in PA or are the customizing Chinese fly lines in PA???

Regardless, I'd like to see that PA factory...
I agree. I don't find it hard to believe that a company could easily be setup to extrude some plastic, though. It can't be that complex. I'm not doubting that they could be made in PA

The Mastery lines are excellent. The Mastery DT is about the only line I use for trout.

Dear Tim Murphy,

I'm gonna stop at Bass Pro on my way past today and use my $50 gift card and pick up a line. I appreciate the tip on Sierra Trading Post though.
