The Spotburning Thread

I'm glad I went fishing on ********* Creek today and got **** tons of fish. Had I stayed in the office all afternoon I would have had to keep up with this soap opera. Thank God for fishing days!

I think streams can get overfished because of the internet. Not because of the people posting the stream report but the idiots that complain. Half the streams posted I have no idea about and i bet the majority of the others in different regions of the state dont either, but when people make it a point to hush people up it gives me another stream to put on my list to fish at some point. obviously if people throw a fit over it then its a decent stream. Bmarx and GW if you want I will build you a trout pond (and stock it with big trout) so you can catch your fish in peace and quit pesting others who actually enjoy seeing how others fare on the streams in this fine state

Jabkin ,

I see in the six months you been a member you made one post in the stream report section of the site . Thanks for your input . I guess you basically come here to find out where to fish instead of inviting others to your spots. Were the fish not biting in your pond that day that you decided to fish outside the box ?

PS. Tell jack M i said hello next time you 2 go out fishing

I have put up links to my blog where you can find many a stream report. and i fish 4 days a week or more. The fact that I found this forum 6 months ago means nothing and has no bearing on anything. If i came here to learn where to fish you would see me on big spring, clarks, yellow breeches, the letort and all the others I have never fished. I choose to fish the streams that I enjoy not that others tell me are fishing good or bad. And I have shared spots with multiple people on this forum and fished with them. I come here to meet fellow fly fisherman and to learn things that I never knew. I am just sick of people thinking that they own streams and have a god given right to tell others to keep their mouth shut.

Also the 6 months that I have been a member as many know I lived 5 of them in Idaho at college. I only live in Pa from Christmas to April. Pretty hard to post a stream report that matters when your 2000 miles from Pennsylvania.

I have given my $.02 and probably wont post on this thread anymore. Its just a waste of my time. No hard feelings towards anyone.

Chaz, read what I wrote before you go spouting off.

First, a stream can be well known and famous yet fly under the radar due to perception problems. How many people did you see fishing it 2 years ago compared to now if you actually fished it. If a famous stream has hardly anyone fishing it it most certainly can be famous and fly under the radar. The was a huge increase in traffic and not due to my stream posts. As for you referencing that 200 years ago people from philly were going there, that is a stupid analogy because the period of time in discussion was how many people were there prior to it becoming glorified on the net not 200 years ago.

Second, you totally miss the Delaware analogy. Do you really understand what you you read? What I said was if a specific pool of the 75 miles was singled out in a report as being the most productive pool on the river what do you think would happen to that pool? That is "spot burning". Key word is spot. The spot is part of the 75 miles.

As for the penns creek example, what I said was if everyone expects the gd hatch to start around may 25th but it starts on may 15th and very few are there and someone posts it started on today, what do you think my 16th will be like.

As for most others, you still do not understand the big picture of what is being said.

I am concerned about restricting the Streams Report Section, for my own selfish reason you could say. I have only 53 posts over a five year period. Does that mean I am not worthy to read said reports? There are many that follow this board for what it is, a source of knowledge about where, when and how. Yet, they do not post much. It’s not easy to run or moderate a fly fishing forum except for the Drake with its self moderation, yes I post there too and see the difference.

After putting some more thought into this, I agree. Imo the stream reports section shouldn't be members only or members w/ a certain number of posts for the underlined reason, and honestly, the majority of the streams in the stream reports aren't secrets and are well known, but it's all the people complaining about the stream and putting it under the spotlight thats giving it all the pressure, not the actual stream report. Most of the threads about the really small not well-known creeks are usually in the general forum and the creeks aren't usually named, the poster is just describing a good day on the water, and those threads don't usually end up as spot burning arguments. And makeing the stream reports just the one post would be ok, but what if someone said in the report "There were some mayflies coming off and a few fish were rising" then somebody would probably wonder if they were sulfers, green drakes, or whatever, but if it was just the stream report then nobody would be able to ask those types of questions about their time on the creek. Imo all the small conversations/questions like what flies were hatching, etc. should be fine in the stream reports section(if those details weren't already in the original report of course), but it's all the bickering and just getting off topic that shouldn't be in included in stream reports threads.

I will take you up on your offer. Pease follow through and then pm me the location of the pond and i will be there. Then i will make a posting and we will see how many show up just to prove a point.

Your generosity is much appreciated. The fly fishing world needs more people like you to cater to the selfish need of people like me.

And congratulation on fishing 4 days a week and having your own blog reporting on your adventures that by your own admission nobody seems to care about nor even seems to know exists. This site, on the other hand, has a legion of followers.

I started the blog for friends and family. I didnt start it to gather a following, I could care less if people look at it or care. The ones that want to can and those who would rather not do not. Its that simple.

I must fish more to gain some legitimacy in this debate.

The most hilarious part of the whole spread out the pressure and talk at will that Jack speaks of is that he has only made # 2 stream report posts in the last yr and a half !!!! Now either he has only been out twice in that yr and a half , which we all know this isn't true by his accounts. So one has to ask himself does Jack M actually practice what he preaches or does he not fish ? Either way it is totally hilariousa now carry on with the non sense fellas. This site is always good for a laugh.

It is our pleasure to entertain you. I made 21 reports in the last 4 years* and cointributed to dozens more. Get off you low horse, maaaaaaan!

*And, they were all good reports, too.

FI,

I do not doubt the data shows an increase in biomass but I severely question the data is comparing apples to apples. The data is showing an increase in a previously barren stretch of water at the expense of other sections, that is not improvement that is relocation.

Tomi,

yes the lower reaches still has a good number of trout in one specific location but that is it, they are all now congregated in that one 50 yard stretch that I know you and probably many others now know about. I can go there and catch fish but I also can go and show you many stretches in the lower 400 yards or so of the c&r section that prior to the work held lots of trout that no longer hold trout.

Sorry i **** you off that I do not think much of the work you probably supported.

Jabik84,

Then than why bring up your blog if you could care less who knows it exists unless you want to get a following to sell advertising.

I still want my pond. I hope that was not a false promise.

Please keep the topic to spot burning and Big Spring. Leave the D out of this thread. It's been spot burned to hell and back by some jackhole that keeps hosting a "jam" up there.

This entire thread makes me want to scream 3 words that were once uttered around a campfire. LOL

You with me on that one Jack?

Jabink,

Get rid of the cheap advertisement for your blog at the bottom of your post then. This looks like you are coming on here to attract attention to your site.

My fishing companion of 30 plus years and I still refer to the secret spot. Frankly I'm astounded that someone would catch fish somewhere and tell anyone besides his best friend or his brother. I wish everyone felt the same. Read a book, get a map, go looking.

I can so feel the love and warmth. I wish I could remove my earlier post about how adult we were all being about this thread because I sure feel like an a$$!

Tight lines everyone!

For serious. I can't believe this is still going! I went to the studio to work on a mix for like, 4 hours and I come back to this! The attraction is gone for sure.

not on a low horse jack , you post about spreading out pressure but u don't practice what u preach , could it be u want others to tell their spots and keep yours to yourself ? Sure looks that way to me and the proof is in the pudding pal. Jabkin if u take the time to make a blog of all your fishing adventures why not do it here too ? You only do it where friends and family are meant to see it ? next time you and jack fish the pond give us a report and quit being so selfish for petes sake !!!
