>>>What Are You Tying Today? Part III

I am experimenting/learning to spin deer hair.

Tied up some skating caddis patterns. I am not sure how I feel about the 3xl hooks as I cant seem to get proportions right. I am having lots of fun tying these skating caddis with the spun deer hair heads. Trimming is getting better but I still not happy with it yet.

I want to tie some deer hair caddis shortly but that means I need to decide what color 1/2 cape I want. decisions. decisions.

Nice streamers wbranch.

Nomad,

Thanks, these are the first traditional streamers I have tied in at least 20 years. I'm not all that satisfied with the marabou streamers but the two feather wing patterns came out much better. Typically I only fish Clouser minnows but figured for the brook trout trip I would tie some classic Maine smelt patterns.

wbranch I am sure those will catch lots of fish. There is something about those classic streamer patterns that make them very appealing to me.

Gorgeous Nomad!

I love spinning deer hair! I still suck at it, but i love tying caddis patterns.

My goal is the muddler minnow. I will tackle very soon.

Thanks. I enjoy spinning deer hair as well. I am terrible at the trimming part. Spinning good hair is fairly straight forward after I watched a few videos. Spinning is kind of like controlled chaos on the vise. I too want to attempt a muddler but the local fly shop didn't have any mottled turkey last time I was there. On of my most memorable fishing experiences involved a muddler minnow so it has a special place in my box. I watched JerryCoviello tie one at the jam last weekend. He made it look easy.

Mohair leeches. Simple to tie. Fish them any way you like - strip them, dead drift them, float them under and indicator. No matter how they are fished they are always deadly. I left the tails long as they are easy to shorten as needed.

Very nice dave

Thanks!

Here's another view of the green drake wiggle nymph shown in water. Looking at flies when wet helps, IMO, to get a better feel for how they look and perform.

Dave...You have some sick skills for sure. First, the Big Spring Cress Bug, and now this

Trevor really nice leeches. I like that pattern in dark olive as well.
Dave, that GD nymph is very cool. Nicely done!

I like it in olive as well as brown or rust brown. I need to pick up those colors next time I find them.

Thanks for the compliments - some cool and motivating stuff all around in this thread.
