>>>What Are You Tying Today? Part II

So I lost a bet with a Patriots fan when they beat the Ravens in the playoffs. Even though his team cheats, I told my buddy I would still pay up. The bet was smallmouth flies, cigars for the day, and drive to a smallmouth outing for the day.

Here's what I came up with...

Feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed.

Thanks,

Steve

I've been tying up a bunch of Al's Rat in red or brown, size 20 and 22. Getting ready for Trico season. Hoping for a good year! It's quote difficult to get a decent picture with a phone of anything below size 16, lol.

Phone pics and baby flies dont work well together. Nice ties!
Ardvark, you fish those for tricos? Im curious, do you fish them tandem with a dry, or solo? Nice ribbing as well!

BelairSteve, they are all good looking flys. Nicely tied. If I wanted to be really picky. And I mean really picky. On your woolly bugger I would not have tied the hackle back at the head. I would let it stand up straight.
Those foam head flys look awesome.

Tyger and RCFetter will tell you I am not critical on their flys. LOL

Tyger - They can be fished on top, tandem or solo, during early morning to imitate male tricos that emerge all through the night. From what I've been told by a few other guys, they are great at filling the gap till the real action shows up. Going to give them a try this year and see what happens.

Yep, not traditional. Going for a different profile.

Articulated woven stone. I still need to solve the problem with the legs.

So I haven't tied in a while and needed to restock...nothing fancy but thanks Dave (djs12354) for the simple but effective...really effective Ice Dub Caddis.

Appreciate the offer...weekday evenings are tough for me though. What time do you guys get together?

A few crawler rigs for slow trolling and casting rivers for walleyes.

Sandfly, i love it.
thinking of the purists squirming at the sight of the spinner blades has me grinning.

What the heck is a crawler rig? Is that something people actually fish with? Or your invention? Do you fish it on fly or spinning gear? I used to do a little spin fishing, and still do occasionally. I've never seen anything like those though.

Crawler rigs and harnesses have been around for eons and are very popular with the trolling walleye crowd. I have never seen one for fly fishing but why not.

Like fishing a streamer with a dropper. Hopper dropper.

I've been running into a lot of carp lately that are either stationary and suspended in the water column or are very slow cruisers. These fish can often be very difficult to entice to take a fly. I cranked out a couple of different types of patterns tonight to try to shake things up a little and hopefully get a reaction out of some of these fish.

A size 6 foxee red minnow and a variation of a size 8 pheasant tail soft hackle.

BelAirSteve, Nice looking flies but if I were you I would have tied them all in purple.
