i would do it if i knew any easy terresterial patters. i just started tying two weeks ago.

Big White, Tie a caterpillar or even tie a wooly worm witha dry fly hackle, makes a pretty good caterpillar imitation, just don't add any weight to it.

The more you tie the better you will become! TIE! TIE! TIE!

I agree. Everyone knows going in that you are new...I did it with the last swap. You will not be judged, trust me. The only way to get better and learn new techniques is to TIE!

I am still in. Thinking maybe a Chernobyl ant, but I am not sure yet. I have to dig out my book on Terrestrials to see if I can find something better.

Big White,

Try some of these sites out for patterns:
http://killroys.com/pattern/terrestrials
http://www.troutflies.com/tutorials
http://flytyingworld.com/flies.html
http://www.hooked-on-flies.com/fly_tying_patterns.htm

I have used all of the above sites to improve some of my tying skills.

Hope these help you out.

I have been working on this hi-vis ant, first I was going to go with a hi-vis post but the hackle sits above the ant body too much and it does not sit nice. So I decided to do the standard hackle but trim it, making it look more like legs which sits nice and low in the water. With the addition of a hi-vis post I think it all comes together nicely. Only issue I have now is the middle section seems to fat, but that can not be helped as i am using foam.

The last photo is off the pattern I think I will be using floating in a tube of water.
