So mt_flyfisher was very generous in passing on some Tiemco streamer hooks to me. He also asked me to tie a fly on a vintage Partridge hook that he gave to me and post it up here on PAFF. This was a very unique style of hook so I put together a couple of stonefly nymph patterns. I’m thinking the profile of these nymphs should wobble, duck and dive much like a natural stonefly nymph would do when dislodged in the current. Thanks John, let me know how many of each one of these patterns you would like to add to your nymph box, glad to hook you up with them. Thanks!

I like the color combination of that Mark Lain. This is a new one for me, should be a good fish catcher.
I've always had good luck with flies with scarlet /yellow combined.

I must have been sleeping all week because I just saw these flies. As usual, I really enjoy looking at your flies, John, and that’s a reward enough for me.

By the way does that Black Stone have crow that you shot in your back yard? (You might enjoy looking up Ed Zern’s article on How to Shoot Crows from years ago in Field and Stream.)

The wing case on the black stonefly is black thin skin, but that’s a great idea, John. A slip from the center tail feather of a crow would actually make a great wingcase on a black stonefly. I’ll have to keep that in mind on the next black stones. I do have lots of native crow feathers available. 😉

Stopped at a small rest area by a stream on my way home from Lake Placid and saw a fisherman sitting at a picnic table tying some flies. Walked over and chatted a bit and he showed me some small Muddler minnows he was tying. I should have taken a photo but I thought I could remember the pattern. Mine turned out a little bigger from his though. I added a floss hot spot. Size 8, 2x long streamer hook, Pearl core braid Pearl white body, marabou, Elk hair head.
