Back hook (Gamakatsu B10S - size 6)Can you share the materials you used?
This is a great looking streamer!!
Saying that any Kelly Galloup video "is a bit lengthy" is like saying that there is SOME water in the Atlantic! He does know his stuff and I loved his series on grading hackle (as well as many of his other videos) but he talks like I write!! 😊Back hook (Gamakatsu B10S - size 6)
Tail - Olive/Chartreuse Marabou w/ two strands of black pearl krystal flash on each side of tail
Body - Ice Dub - Olive (tied in dubbing loop)
Hackle - Olive/variant saddle hackle (palmered)
Rib - Ultra wire - golden olive - Brassie (counter wrapped to reinforce hackle)
Wing - Olive Marabou
Legs - sili legs - perfectly barred Olive
Connection between hooks is AFW knottable nylon coated wire with one large glass bead in root beer color
Front hook (Gamakatsu B10S - size 2)
Tail - tuft of olive marabou to hide wire connection/bead
Body - Ice dub - olive (tied in dubbing loop)
Hackle - Olive/Variant saddle hackle (palmered)
Rib - ultra wire - golden olive - brassie (counter wrapped to reinforce hackle)
Wing - Olive Marabou
Legs - sili legs - perfectly barred Olive
Head - Large black nickel brass conehead (several wraps of .015 lead wire to seat the conehead)
Thread I used was UTC G.S.P. 100 in olive
As I mentioned in my original post this is a Kelly Galloup pattern and if you Google on “tying a peanut envy” and go to the videos you’ll find a YouTube video of Kelly tying this streamer. The video is fairly lengthy (44 minutes) but Kelly is very entertaining and is a detailed tyer. He incorporates a lot of commentary in with his tying videos and much of it is very informative. His videos are well worth the time to watch them. Kelly ties these streamers for the big meat eating trout that they target out west when floating the larger rivers. I’m also thinking that this streamer would be a very effective Smallmouth pattern here in the East. I would think they would also be great tied in black, brown, white and yellow.
BTW Jim, great ties from you in Kim’s last fly swap. Thanks for the BWO bonus fly. Very nicely done!
Here’s a pic of all materials to tie the Peanut Envy.
