How would anyone know if you got blue jay feathers from your back yard or from a supply house?*The Blue Jay feathers in your local wooded area or backyard are illegal to use.

I hate to stand up for government red tape but the jay feathers you'd buy would be from the Eurasian Jay - not native to the US and are legally harvested and can be sold in the US. The feather is similar to, but not the same as the US's blue jay.How would anyone know if you got blue jay feathers from your back yard or from a supply house?
I've never tied anything with a Blue Jay's feather. I made the post out of curiosity more than anything else. I would suppose it's not legal to pick up a dead Blue Jay's carcass from....wherever one may find such a thing....and use those feathers for tying? Protected birds are that for a reason.I hate to stand up for government red tape but the jay feathers you'd buy would be from the Eurasian Jay - not native to the US and are legally harvested and can be sold in the US.
