Here's another riff on Ken's Crazy Ant. No wing or hackle. Flashabou for legs. Plus a little weight on the hook to pull it under.
Explain that to me, please. Are you fishing them sunken, or do they not land on the water or float correctly?

A lot of sweet ties man, love seeing them. :-D

Gutcutter,

I had a bunch of extra bodies for Ken's Crazy Ants already colored. I like the look of the body, but also like fishing "drowned" ants as a dropper. The foam floats though. So this was an experiment.

I needed enough weight to make them at least sink slowly. So I tied one up with some .20 lead wire wrapped on the hook. I experimented. It takes about 4 turns to sink it. I left off the wing/sighted and hackle but added the flashabou strands as legs.

No idea how they will fish, but I figure it will be a good tandem with one on top and another dropped off of that come summertime. Or maybe under a beetle or hopper.

A wet ant was my most productive dropper last year. figured I would give it a shot.

for the local rivers here.

I've never seen a Northern Hogsucker but I dated one in high school in Jersey, nice ties Sandfly.

Looks like you've got the baitfish arena covered Bob, nice ties.

Great explanation. Thanks. Please let us know how they work. A sunken ant is a deadly fly for me after about mid June.

Sandfly, really nice looking bait fish patterns.

I just got finished tying a dozen black sinking ants. 1/2 dozen glass bead carpenter ants in size 10 and the other 1/2 dozen in size 14.

JackM,

The drake pattern casts fine when I use a little bit heavier tippet.

My first attempt at tying with catgut, tried to emulate Lucian Vasies pupa...

Thanks Mike, nice one Stag...

Just another PT Nymph except I tied it on a Mustad Streamer sz12 2xl.

Today I'm going to tackle a prince nymph.

Nice job Bob, next time you come I will show you a couple different ways to add legs to that fly.
