Trying a new stone fly pattern. The back is not a shiny as it appears in the picture, it's actually more clear. As far as the fly goes, this was my first attempt so it is definitely not the cleanest. Being a new tier doesn't help either.

I like that crayfish pattern. Can you post the materials?

I've tried several crayfish flies, but have yet to tie one that I really love.

Tying some Humpys.

Once you get past the initial frustrations of the pattern and start to learn the intricacies/tricks to it, they become a real joy to tie!

Thanks Jeremy. The pattern is as follows:

Hook: Size 10 Mustad 9672

Thread: Brown Danville Size A flat waxed nylon floss to cover the underbody. Tan Danville 6/0 for the standard thread.

Weight: 1/8 brass bead and strip of lead twiston lashed to the top of the hook to make it flip over.

Antennae: tan silicone bass skirt material

Claws: red squirrel tail

I noticed it looks like you're a fan of FTD materials, as am I. Try using Congo hair as the shellback. It doesn't look as neat, but is easier to work with.

Body: Tannish wool roving, dubbed on. Use any course dubbing as a substitute.

Legs: dyed brown grizzly hackle

shellback: strip of heavy latex sheeting cut from an industrial glove. Colored tan with a sharpie.

Rib: copper wire.

Eyes: Black fabric paint

Cement: Clear nail polish for head cement and gloss coat on the back.

Mario, nice ties ! I plan on tying those same flies soon.
