Thermometer

Im in the very northern tip of Murrysville.

I bought an inexpensive digital meat thermometer. It suits my needs, is accurate and quick. It is not water proof so I keep it in a baggie.

After breaking innumerable glass therms, by leaving them in a hot car during summer or dropping them, I went through a bunch of neat digital ones. Now I've gone almost commando, or maybe cheapo. I get the kitchen style ones at Harbor Freight for $3-5. They're durable, but may need calibration. Just stick it in a glass of ice water and figure the number of degrees offset.

This source is correct. Harbor Freight is the place to go, however I would still go digital with their product. No need for calibration.

I too use the medal encased version. I have a few of them. I also tie a 3 foot section of backing to mine with a spring clip on the end. I attache the spring clip to my forceps so I don't leave them somewhere.
