So I can count you in on the next swap?I’ve never participated in a fly swap either. So what is the allure of a fly swap?
After following the fly swaps here for some time, and looking at the pictures of the flies you guys have tied, I think I know what the allure is.
Fly swaps are pretty much like the Mega Millions Lottery, but with just one exception. If you get in on one of the fly swaps here everyone is guaranteed to be a winner.
Didn’t some other great Catskill tiers do that when someone wouldn’t teach them? They bought a bunch of flies and “re-engineered” them to learn how to tie flies.I knew one guy a few years back that did the swap and un-tied every fly he got to see how they were tied. Bit i like seeing the creativity. Like cooking everyone has their little nuances. Often it's stuff i would never tie but now I have one to try.
I’ll second that, a terrestrial swap would be a ton of fun.I think a terrestrial swap would be great, but it might mean I would have to buy a set of those hopper foam cutters, since tying a batch of 10 of the hoppers I normally tie would take a good bit.
As another alternative - we could do a Cicada swap, since, well - you know.
those look big. I hope the box I sent Jim is big enough! hahaShipping todayView attachment 1641239769
dark olive, olive, and light olive. then white/yellow/cream/ and then black are my go-to colors - in that order.Figured this might be a good place to ask about streamer colors, and more specifically about color blends, as I recently snagged this off the ‘bay for $20. View attachment 1641239780
It’s a vintage salesman’s sample of olefin rug yarn, the strands of which - after a minute of brushing - transform into lovely 6” strips of EP triggerpoint fiber.

It’s indistinguishable from the original (to me, at least), and floats and moves the same in the water.
So as I now have several lifetime supplies of this stuff, what color blends are most useful for PA streamers? I own one pack of original ep trigger point which seems to be a mix of olive, rust and a little black, and thought some other custom blends might be interesting. TIA.
Not really. They’re 3” (the box is 3.25” wide).those look big. I hope the box I sent Jim is big enough! haha
