Snakeheads are coming

Frederick perhaps you could discuss your gear. You are using steroid induced stuff that is strong enough to drag those monsters to the rail. There are a good few of us that fish Pads that would benefit by such a discussion.

Awesome fish, what flies do you use to throw into heavy vegetation? What general area are you fishing?

I’m using a Scott Sector 8’ 4” 10wt , yes a 10 Wt . 25 lb fluroflex about 8-9’ long with a 30lb power clip . The fly I was using at the susky was my snakehead stalker fly and the one from the video is a double dipper frog from my friend Carl Harris . https://www.cghcustomtackle.com/product-page/double-dipper-weedless-frog-fly-large

Another video if anyone is interested

Alright. i watched the Snakehead fly fishing videos. That looks pretty darn cool. I still want to eat one.

Morning musing:

Susquehanna River snakehead eats a favored invasive (smallmouth).

Same snakehead is caught and eaten by a human.

Human craps in Harrisburg sewage system.

Raw sewage flows into Susquehanna River.

Circle of life.

Funny I was replying the lion king circle of life song in my head when I read that .

Not sure if you guys get tired of videos I certainly don’t . Here is a short clip from one of my fish on the Susky

Fred are you dragging that lure through the weeds without getting hooked on every turn? Is the lure that weedless? I know there are Lunker Bass and Pickerel in these weeds but I avoid casting deliberately into or across the pads with flies. Rather I just poke around in holes and along the edges.

I only fish weedless flies for snakehead .

Article about the Mississippi

Experts aren't as concerned about the fish these days, Larry Pugh, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries chief of staff, told the Clarion Ledger.

"A snakehead report doesn't get our attention like it did," Pugh said. "They don't seem to be having a negative impact. The impacts are not as bad as we initially thought."

Still, Pugh says possessing or transporting the fish is illegal and eradication is the goal.
"Our message is if you catch one, kill it," Pugh said.

Oh GeneBean you never disappoint. Well the cat is out of the bag so to speak they are above Holtwood dam now .

Maybe you can start a Snakehead Unlimited and be president.

Ah man, I would have been interested but I'll be in Mystic on a date with a cool chick.

Here's something I wrote "about" snakeheads showing up in the Susky...

Well done raftman. Like that way you get the idea of history as something that is ongoing and projecting into future.
Imagine what that river was like when it was teeming with eels, Rockfish, herring and shad!

York County
There has been another confirmed catch, which was disposed of properly, of a Northern Snakehead in Lake Redman. Snakehead are considered to be an invasive species and, if caught, should be killed immediately. Please be sure to properly identify your catch before disposing of it.

Frederick have you been catching them lately. Where do the go in winter?

And the problem of introductions continues. Learned that they are now in Lake Ontelaunee, Berks Co.
