Jam food

If I can find the time before the jam, I'll smoke some salmon bellies also.

i may do some pulled pork, we'll see.

I'll throw together a batch of Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Looks like we got a good menu going so far!

I'll bring Oreos and chipped ham.

Oh, and beer for the Oreos.

Bump up

On the Jam thread there has been a lot of talk about a chili cook off. I am interested in doing it if anyone else is. It seems that a lot of people are bringing chili so it should be a hit. This is just a bit of the conversation but I thought it would fit here in the food thread as well.

Jack, its just a thought, but if there is a chili competition. Voters could cast there ballot with a fly. One fly, one vote. The greatest chilli chef could get nice little collection for his fly box!

I think voting with flies is a great idea! Now the question is do I make the chili onsite and miss out on some good fishing or do I make it before I leave and try to hold it that long? If it's the option of holding it in a cooler for 2 days I don't think anyone will be giving me any flies!

In all seriousness though, how will the cooking arrangements be made? I know there is a grill under the pavilion and if it is a matter of calling dibs on it, then "DIBS". Do any of the participants or bystanders have turkey fryers or butane/propane stoves that are big enough for a stock pot? To make enough chili for everyone we are talking at least 2 gallons of chili per participant. Dudes, beer and chili = a lot of chili eaten! Regardless of the arrangements I am in. I will do a trial run on my camp stove and see if I can cook the necessary volume on it. If not I'm up for borrowing a turkey fryer or a large burner.

Should we start a separate thread about this topic to get an idea of who is in and what equipment is needed and/or loaned? I think I may be more excited about this than the fishing. The fishing has really sucked the last 2 years!

I camp a lot throughout the summer months and I always make chili in a a 4qt cast iron oven hung from a tripod over a fire. Ive never considered doing this at the JAM because im usually fishing til dark. I get back to the CG at 10. Eat a ham sammich, grab a sixer and head to the pavilion.

2 things I know to be true, 1. Bruno will leave your good alone because he usually has a steak at all hours he's not fishing and 2. Im eating whatever David brings.

If I ate chili all weekend my innerds would revolt and my waders would fill up with enough gas to put Range Resources out of business. I may, since everyone seems into the culinary socialism thing, whip a big batch of jambalaya on site for one for the weekend nights.

If I'm not full on Oreos, I'll eat jambalaya too Tom. If you'll allow it.

Depends on what cooking facilities I have.
Prep H on sale check your local pharmacy. GG

of course...i'll let you have some of my bourbon too if you want. But I'm still gonna argue with you here. Its boring here. The Jam is fun.

So I can organize the food for Saturday night. For those people who are making chilli, I suggest you bring a crock pot with you an put it in before you head out to fish in the a.m. I have a cabin rented so if anyone wants to give me there chilli an crock pot when we get up there, I'll plug them all in, in my cabin.
As far as food that needs to be cooked i.e. meat, chicken whathaveya. I guess we will have to share the grill. I will be bringing 2 of my weber grills with me so there might be some room on those to cook.
I plan on fishing brookie streams, so I'll be back prolly right around dark to get things started. Any other questions you have feel free to pm me.

Very cool. I'll have some bourbon on my person too. We can have a drink or 3 and talk hockey. I always look forward to "arguing" with you...well let's just call it debating and I fully respect that you still love your team even though you're in enemy territory.

Im going to have to figure out some crock pot food to bring too.

I love some good hockey talk, you can count me in on that conversation.

I'll get in on this too.

I work with phish_on everyday in a busy restaurant. Alone from his cooking credentials if theres one person that can organize this it's him. Believe me! I'll also be with him in the cabin and don't mind helping him with the task.
