I was given:-D a Montague Flash Bamboo rod:-D and would like to find out what flyline could be used with it.
The only information I can make out on the tube is trout rod.
I would love to get this fishing before the season is gone.
Thank you for any information.

Cast it. If there's no markings, that's about it.

Start with a 6DT, then try a 7DT, then back down to 5DT. I'll bet you its the 6, though.

how long is the rod?usually anything 8 foot or better was registered in the hi d system, before that it was a silk thing.Try a few lines, see if it prefers a weight foward or a double taper.then mark it somehow.

The Montague Flash 1932-1952 from what I know. The Montague Decal, Reel Seat, Grip shape and size, and wrap colors will date the rod 30's 40's or 50's? General rule-or-thumb (old Line wt. system. IFI-DT3, HFH- DT4, HEH-DT5, HDH-DT6, HCH-DT8---IFG WF3, HFG WF4, HDF WF5, HCF WF7, GBF WF8. It was one of Montague's lower priced rods but not the cheapest.
