Endless Winter.

Endless winter. That's it. One day, week, month after another., Winter.
No breaks (for me, at least) all of January and February. Looks like March 1st might bring some relief .
But until then. Winter.
Syl.
Back in 2023 I had just retired and decided I was going to escape this crap. So loaded up the RV and went to Arizona right after New Years Day. Well, it was the wettest winter there in 100 years and the most snow in 80 years. Snowed in Tucson, Tombstone and Sedona. Rained in Phoenix and even down by Organ Pipe Cactus NM. I would turn on the weather and see it was often warmer back home in PA. When I came home in late March there was a cold spell, and I had to winterize the camper.

Next winter I'm going to have a woodstove put in and I'm just going to sit by it and tie flies until ice out.

Oh, fickle March, so cold, so gray,
You mock the promise of warm spring days.
Your winds still howl, your skies still weep,
Winter’s grip runs dark and deep.

The earth is soaked, the rivers rise,
A bitter chill still bites the skies.
The sun peeks out, then hides in gloom,
Teasing buds that dare to bloom.

You whisper spring, yet breathe out frost,
A bridge between, but tempest-tossed.
March, you liar, false and bold—
Just let me go from all this cold!

Did you type this from the putting green in sunny Florida?!?!?! 🤣

After the past few mild winters, having an actual "real" winter certainly is a shock to the system. While it's generally been cold in my part of SEPA, we really haven't had a lot of snow. My theory is if it's going to be cold, it might as well snow, so bring it on!

It’s been hard to get my 4Runner out to even run it this Winter. (I don’t let it see salt.) Went 6 weeks without running it til two weekends ago, which is way too long and not good for it, but neither is the salt. 🤷‍♂️
As capable as they are in the snow and ice, this is the way, unfortunately. I have a 2003 with only 150k miles on it, and the frame will be the death of it LONG before the engine dies. I've already had to cut/replace two small sections of the frame, and I'll be lucky to get another 10 years out of it at this point.

Despite the occurrence of these nuisance (low depth) snows this winter, the precip amount is below normal in the Lehigh Valley, contributing to the ongoing concern since last summer. I really had not given that a thought until I noted last week that flow was surprisingly low on the Jordan again with broad areas of gravel and rubble exposed between the natural banks and the water’s edge. Then today there was a report of below avg precip this winter.

it's still a drought i believe.

Agreed. It's a systemic issue, as much of the heavier precip seems to be skirting to our south. Such has been the case for what seems like a few years now. Even the larger area of precipitation this week is going to stay well south of the Mason-Dixon. I'm not optimistic the pattern will change anytime soon and am planning conditions staying fairly dry in SEPA through spring and summer. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Like a lot of you guys, I’m kinda struggling with this “ normal “ winter too.
I’m always doing something out in the woods, but these last 3 weeks especially, man… I’m really getting into a funk. I usually relish a normal winter, but this one seems tougher, and colder. My wife says I’m just getting old. Haha
The woodburner in the LR helps tho !

They put down road salt like I've never seen before. Another thing I've noticed, is even with the slightest accumulation of snow they close the schools. No wonder kids have lower grade scores these days.
When I was growing up, it took a pretty good snow to keep us home from school. If buses weren't running, you walked to school.
Ed Rendell wrote a book , "Nation of Wusses". I never read it, but the title fits.

Do you mean the Ed Rendell that didn't plow the smaller streets in Philly after the Blizzard of 1993 when he was mayor and only opened one lane on other streets like Callowhill where I worked and it stayed that way for weeks??

This wuss had to walk from 30th Street Station for weeks because that wuss didn't plow $#!+.

Me too. I especially hate having to get my truck washed every time there's the slightest accumulation of whatever falls. They salt the crap out of the roads in my area! It's a vehicle's worst enemy.
This is $#!+ is ridiculous...

It doesnt even feel cold on the non windy days now. I was out grilling steaks and playing ball with my dog and the neighbors dog after dark last night
