I've been a fan of Dinsmore Split Shot for several years: non toxic, dull coloration, oval shape for lower snag profile and fairly easily removable. Although they are relatively expensive.
I use a fair number of their AAA .8 Gram shot for nymphing, and recently made my yearly order of six refill boxes from Fish USA for $20.70 (plus $6.95 Shipping UGH!). I was surprised that three of the new boxes contained 10 shot and 3 boxes had 11 shot. I checked my records and found that my last order of the same size contained 14 shot per box and cost $17.70 for 6 boxes.
Probably not a big deal to most, but raising the price and lowering the quantity by up to almost 30%, although standard practice now days,
is a bit extreme in my opinion.
Called Fish USA and b...ched. Their answer was that since the manufacturer doesn't specify quantities there was nothing they could do. To their credit, they gave me a token refund for 1 box, but suggest I go to a cheaper lead product.
