Rooster, did you get your flies yet? I am still waiting on mine. Not that I have been waiting that long, just anxious I guess.

I don't think I've ever mail ordered flies from anywhere except FFP. That said, I don't do that all that often either.

My flies come from a hodgepodge of sources. I tie some, a few basic patterns that I use a lot. I only tie a few patterns well, there's a lot I use that I don't tie well. Those, I either trade for (using the few patterns I tie well), or I buy them somewhere or other. If I'm on a trip somewhere, it's an observance of tradition to stop in the local fly shop and get some information and a "feel" of the place. And of course, for their hospitality, you can't leave without buying anything. So a spool of tippet, maybe a wheel of shot, and 6-12 of their flies, including replacing what you know you'll need as well as 2 or 3 of the "local" pattern. If I go to the Fly Fishing show or something similar, I usually pick up a few from various tyers, and sometimes I get a big # if one of those big fly stores is having a ridiculous sell. If I'm in FFP or the Feathered Hook, I rarely fail to buy a fair number of flies just because I find theirs to be of very high quality. I've gotten a few from Cabelas as well, when I'm there for other reasons, I always stop in the fly shop part to look, and then it reminds me I'm short on whatever it is I'm short on.

So as for mail order, the only time I've ever done it is when I was ordering other stuff. I make an order, and then tell them to tag on a half dozen parachute Adams' on the end or something.

Price doesn't really play a factor for me on where I buy them, I buy flies wherever is convenient at the time. Price can effect how many, though. Quality does have an effect, I am willing to pay extra for quality flies, but I admit I sometimes sacrifice quality for convenience.

Never overlook quality. $.99 cents may be a great price and they may work great. But when the 1st or 2nd fish starts unraveling that fly, you'll throw it out quick. Then you get a truly high quality fly for $2, and you realize it was a deal when fish #10 comes to hand and the fly still looks good.

Quick question. I see advertisements that say "hand-Tied Flies," what if they aren't? is that possible? I mean, if there was some sort of machine that would make my life sooooo much easier...

THANK YOU for posting this! I found this place earlier today on Ebay and thought, "hmm....320+ flies for $120.00...must be too good to be true. Good to know these are quality bugs!

So I found out why my flies haven't come yet. The Canadian post went on strike and now they are trying to catch up. So if you are going to order these flies be prepared to wait.

Yeah well, I don't have $120 to spend on flies right now anyway.

Aww the infamous Canadian Mailman Strike of 2011.

On eBay there is a seller named epicfliescanada that has a assortment with about 1300 fly's for 125$. Great quality. I got two!

Ordered them, but how do you get 1300 I counted 342. But like I said I have not received them yet.

From a Pa. fly shop that ties there own flies, that way you are getting top quality flies that match the area's insects and are durable. Buying imported flies is one reason all of you complain about shop's closing. Why not support the local shops that are left..

there are 342 PATTERNS, but several sizes in each pattern. So = 1300

That's a good base to work off of, but like sandfly said you will need some more specific patterns, or to replace those that you use alot for your area. To do that either go to a local fly shop, (they'll also give you some tips and info) or start tying yourself.

342 and for the most part I agree about the local patterns but my local fly shop buys them in anyways they don't tie any. If I bought these flies there I would spend $358.89. Bought my reel, line, waders, ect. there so I definitely support them.

Ok, so I got my flies in. Great quality, thought you guys might want to see some of them. Could not fit them all in to 2 boxes so I took out some of the ones that I don't think I will use.

Awesome. I was gonna ask how you made out.

Tomorrow I'm meeting w/ an older dude (Same guy who gave me the Berkley glass rod and Heddon reel). He wants to unload more fly fishing/tying stuff on me. Can't wait!

I recently placed a large order with the Flystop ($40+). I've been VERY happy with the flies I received, very high quality, and you can't beat the prices. And I seem to recall that they're located in PA.

i have ordered from anglers dream, fly stop, and stream flies. i love them all, they have excellent flies at a reasonable price.

I will say one thing for flystop. The last batch of flies I ordered were ok EXCEPT for the royal coachman flies. on all three the wings fell off before I could even tie my line to them. they all had this little tear in the front of the wing...don't know what it's from but I do plan on asking them about it. right now Kody is gone on vacation but I will find out more.

How about Salt flies? Best place to purchase them, price being reasonable?

good deal for twenty bucs

Anybody know of any Quality fly tiers that are local and sell flies for a reasonable price? Don't know if that possible in today's market. But thought I would just ask..
