I usually carry four tippet reels, 4x-7x, on a "T" clipped either to my vest or around my neck. Problem is the cheap bands that come with the reels invariably let the end slide through.

How do you handle your tippet? Anyone keep it in their vest pockets?

Today, I looked like a silk worm I was so tangled in tippet.

:p

Keep mine snapped together in my chest/fanny pack.

I'm not a lanyard guy so I really don't have to worry about being tangled up, lol.

if it trolls you that bad there are great alternatives out there. trouthunter has some fancy band that is pretty much indestructible.

I keep mine on a dangler logged up. its convenient but often gets tangled in my flyline if I keep it out front. (operator error) But aside from that its at arms reach with my floatant on the end of it. I think the maker has "fly" in the name.

i keep my tppet spools two ways, i make my own spool handies out of elastic banding pony beads and electrical heat shrink tubing, you can buy these or do like i did and make your own.and i also make handies for two different types of spools, regular rio powerflex /orvis superstrong sized spools, and of course Maxima sized spools, when you make the smaller spools you use smaller beads and elastic banding and beads.
in my chest packs, and i have three{one for Trout, one for Steelheaad/Salmon/Lake Run ,and one that i use for smallmouth/largemouth/panfish and switch this chest pack out for Saltwater Jetty and Boat fishing}in my trout pack i have two Loop Tippet dispensers each holds four sizes one for mono and the other dispense holds flouro, really put an end to having a birdsnest or gettin tippet caught in zippers, in my other two packs...for steelhead/salmon/lake run browns i use the streamworks modular tppet dispenser ,since the mono and flouro i use up north is alot larger than trout tippets i need a system that holds larger capacities of tippet in bigger diameters, works great for me but their system is kind of a lil bulky. For Saltwater all i use is Seaguar flouro ,and i try to buy the bigger spools 30,25,20,15,12,10,Grand max flouro i use for trout /smallies only.

Dear Letort,

Simms used to make a tippet case out of neoprene. It came in two sizes one for Maxima sized spools and one for the smaller spools.

I lost my Maxima sized version many years ago and switched to one of those thingies like Maurice posted. Invariably, there is at least one spool that never seems to keep from unraveling and usually for me it's 5X. I've gone through 2 spools of 5X this year and most of it was wrapped around streamside shrubbery.

I think I'm going to dig out my old Simms case and start using it again.

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)

It's made by Mayfly. I use the same thing without the floatant holder. I keep that in it's own holder. System works fine and keeps tippet handy when I need it.

I like this one

But it looks like the Trouthunter style all put together.

never had a problem with the tippet falling off the spools, but i generally prefer scientific anglers with the rubber band. maxima spools suck and their rubber bands are junk, but i never carry the leader sized stuff with me.

Ya Maxima sucks but you are not really carrying it on stream. Interesting that you use SA tippet, as most folks hate it.

Its done me well. That's my "good" brand. The cheap one is the Cortland fairplay from Sprawlmart, mostly because I like to stick two spools together and get them for 50% off.

I put the old bands from the SA spools on them, too.

My waders have 4 or 5 little pockets at the top of the waders, that zip shut, a perfect place to keep tippet and they are out of the way.
