30" Browns

SNJ , I sure hope you can produce them. This thread has suddenly grown very interesting. I wasn't aware of any salt running trout other than coaster brookies on the east coast. I am totally fascinated, totally. Exciting.

http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/crunbrn.htm - note they say how tight lipped those that catch are...

they stocking 15,000 browns in tidal waters per yer.

this was caught at Belmar NJ in the surf on clams in May 2011,

there is also a sea run fishery on long island, which due to the break on fire island due to Sandy and the resulting rejuvenation of the bay may well result in a world class fishery this or next winter ( once the two winter fish return)

sea run browns are different to salmon in that they don't migrate offshore, but hang around bays, estauries and in shore reefs until the blue fish turn up and run em back into the rivers.

Some info on NJ sea-run browns..

I took this photo of a framed photograph (inside a display case) of Joe Humphrey's 34", 16lb, Brown Trout that is displayed at the PA Fly Fishing Museum Association. Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited has most of their meetings at this location.

The Museum display is a MUST SEE!

Additionally, I have a color photo of the same fish that I had seen before on the internet.

That is a heck of a trout! Thanks for posting. Those vintage pics are neat regardless of fish size too.

18 to 22 inchers on the Lackawanna pretty regularly. Ive seen pics of 24s and a hand full larger. But to push the 25 inch mark is quite a challenge.

This is the biggest trout ive seen out of the Lackawanna. Confirmed cauggt on a jerk bait. Dont know who it is but its a pretty serious trout!

Ouch

were i to hunt for a PA 30" brown, i'd try in the deep pools at the foot of dams on mixed species rivers - somewhere where the big fish can lay doggo during the day and then hunt at night for chubs, shiners, frogs and mice.

My friend caught a 26'' brown out of the delayed harvest section on Laurel Hill creek in the state park. Caught it on a spinner, fishing it the same way we did hundreds of times and just got lucky this one time I guess.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The two best fish that I have seen this year are your 30"+ brown and colololins 30"+ brown. I have not seen anything close to those wild browns from anyone else this year, even outside of PA.

Hmmm. Never thought about what happens below Lake Tahoe. Looking at Google maps it appears to squander. Trukee above Reno is packed full of fish. Hell, Trukee in Reno is full of fish if you are adept at dodging bullets and meth pipes.

LOL... nice landing technique.... got to try that during my next brookie outing.

My largest wild trout was a 24" Brown. Given where I took this trout from, I would be willing to almost guarantee that the same location also holds at least one fish in the 30" range. In fact, I think that it is possible there could be several fish that size here.

I did one of those at the steelhead jam. Fortunately Gulfgreyhound didn't have his camera ready or I would have had to sue. Oh wait, wrong thread.

my one and only mounted fish was a 4 1/4 ,28" female brown caught in Montana- typical fish.
so unless we are talking pre spawn female that's about what a 28" brown weighs-so grain of salt time when people guesstimate weight.
I caught 501 4 pounds or more stream caught trout, over 30 year period ,all on flies but thats Montana-nother game entirely.
Not as many as it sounds, less then 20 a year.
Catch the spawning run on the Missouri one a day about average.

I am proud to say I have never mounted a fish; nor have I suffered serious intentions to mount a fish.

Like most of us, I googled "Granville". Road Trip!!!

I am glad to see JackM has finally finished urinating into a brookie stream in his avatar.

I was 20 feet or more away.

Ok so here it is...

Like a 36"er (it is difficult to scale fish in photoshop and keep them accurate)

Local small CV stream.

Actual Fish was 24.5"....now 36-inches per digital voodoo.

This is one way to catch one over 30
