Who's Going Out Today?

Small streams are looking better up here. I think this is still quite high for this water this time of year, but it definitely fished really well in the slow pools. It's off color, but I think it is always pretty tanniny.

There are some big, cool 50 ft falls with swimming holes that made for a fun day of letting the kids play while I fished.

How far up in the Adirondacks are you?

Clinton County. High, but small streams fished very well today. Water temp was 52. Way colder than I would have expected.

I meant to take my little boat out for warm water today, but then realized I buried it under crap in the garage over the past week. Lost my wind.

Instead, after "remote work" of sending 4 emails, I checked out a section of a small stream very close to my house where I failed to find fish on one previous attempt; I knew there where browns higher up in it, though.

Had a hit from about a foot long fish - as big as I've seen in the stream - under the exposed roots in this first spot, but lost it. Eventually confirmed the presence of at least a few wild browns.

The high air temperature today was 70. Hell yes. I'm not going to miss this hot *** summer.

Lots of nice pics here. I’ve been in full smallmouth mode but made it out last weekend to a small stream in the ANF. Water was low 60s but still really low. Felt good to catch some brookies on dries.

Thought I’d share an update on the who is going out today topic. Scouting during Debbie payed off again. Was able to think I noticed a lack of chocolate color a few days ago and planned to fish this medium unstocked freestone NC Pa mountain stream after it came down. Water seemed a little too clear? Flows were high and awesome. Only saw one rise all day. Used a 2.5” streamer on the 5foot 6weight glass rod. Ended up 8 for 21 hooked. Had an heck of a time keeping them buttoned up today. Could see really well and also saw 9 followers. Landed 7 browns and 1 brookie. Brookie was small 6 inches or so. Most trout were 8-11” but did get lucky and hooked 3 quality fish, lost 2 giants and landed one. Last fish of the day was a 19” brown. What a fun fight!

Also saw this rattlesnake. About two feet away from where I was sitting at the end, of a lunch break. Got done snacking/ hydrating and threw the sling pack back on and heard it rattle behind me and jumped. Olympic judges you should have been there. I jumped far.
Mud at bottom of the picture is where my boots were, I sat there on that bank eating for ten minutes and that thing snuck in silently behind my back to 2 feet away and rattled vigorously at me!
What a fun day! Great to get out!

Awesome report. Following Debbie, I've had my worse trout fishing of the year. Just lousy trips. It's inexplicable.

Good fish and pics. That snake was probably there the whole time. Impressive rattle on that one.

(Now fully detached from the impact of Debby...)

I spent a morning on stillwater to see if any salmonids are hanging around yet. Nada. However, there are large pods of perch up in the shallows, and, apparently, some fish willing to chase them. Got a bit of a hog on a big ol streamer:
