If you’re driving along the road and pass that fresh looking roadkill (maybe even still quivering), don’t pass it up. You may find a critter with a patch of skin that you can cure up and it will tie a lot of flies for you. Ringneck pheasant - rusty rump feathers, pheasant marabou feathers, blue/green back feathers all with an attached philo plume … the options are endless!!

Ive been looking for a Cree Rooster.

Ive been looking for a Cree Rooster.

I was hiking along an old country road a number of years ago, when I saw a Cree Rooster doing a kind of Dance beside the roadway. Before I got close to it, a car came along and hit that fellow and knocked him clean into the ditch.

I thought “We’ll, here’s a chance to get me some of those Cree feathers.”

However, I could see he was still alive and kicking, so I figured with a little help he might recover. So I opened my water bottle and wiped some of the cool, Clear Water on his cape and saddle.

Sure enough, he recovered quickly and walked away. All I got out of it were a nice handful of his feathers. (I thought they might make good Fly Fishing Tales.)

P.S. The farmer later named that rooster the CreeDance ClearWater Revival.

Either a small bugger or a very large wet fly on a #10 hook......fishes real well dead drifted or swung through the bottom of a pool.

Gonna try these out today.
