I have a Droid and it won't focus that close.

Macro mode and good lighting.

But I have been using my iPhone 6 lately.

I don't even use the macro. I take pick about 6-8'' away then crop it

Really easy.

Amen GenCon....I use my cell phone as well (iPhone 5s). I zoom a bit on the fly, focusing it, then gently touch the button. Sometimes it takes a time or two but that's what I do. I also leave the flash off and set up under one of my ceiling lights.

Iphone 5s take great pics. I've found that when you see that yellow square and press on it, the background blurs. Looks pretty nice.

Been playing with some Bondic my bud gave to me. I don't fish scud often....this will definately change this year!

All nice flys guys. John that squid looks tasty. You can make your flys as fancy as you like. But for stripers it's hard to beat deceivers lime green with white collar. And all white. 3- different sizes. 3'' - 4'' - 5''.
I have fished the Vineyard many times. Took all kinds of flys. Caught 90% of my fish on these 2- flys. The only other fly I used a lot was on flat water inland ponds, Deer hair sliders in black or yellow. Striped slowly across surface.

Think I am ready for some deep water smallies.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I will definitely be cranking out some Clousers, deceivers and half and halfs. Chartreuse and white always seem tough to beat.

dc410 - great looking squid fly. To you have a recipe for that pattern? Just moved to NYC from Lancaster and looking to get into more striper fishing this spring. Looks like a great pattern!

elonDO,

Thanks. I was inspired by a pattern that sandfly posted in a thread I started in the warmwater/saltwater forum titled "Striper Fishing". I kind of just rooted through my tying materials and threw this one together. Here is the material list of the fly I posted the photo of:

Hook: mustard C70S D size 2
Thread: 6/0 white Uni-thread
Tail: (2) short white saddle hackles
(3) strands of pearl Krystal flash - doubled over
(2) long grizzley saddle hackles
(2) long white saddle hackles
Eyes: small pearl dumbell eyes (tied Clouser style)
White marabou skirt tied in behind eyes
Body: mixture of white Ram's wool & white artic fox in dubbing loop in front of eyes and combed back past the eyes.
Head: Light grey UV ice dub - lightly singed with lighter and than marked with dots from an olive marker
Finish: coated with thin Clear Cure Goo UV resin and cured with UV light.

As I said above, I just kind of threw this one together but I kind of like the way it turned out. That is a part of fly tying that I really enjoy.

Ants Marching. Sz 16 terrestrial/hopper hook allows for a slightly larger body than a standard dry fly hook. Trout love 'em.

First real effort at tying since my shoulder rebuild.
