Trout stamp

My Comcast bill is $280 a month. I hate it. Add another $16 a month for NetFlix. I'm a loser. I can't convince my wife to drop Comcast and stream via YouTube TV or any other medium.
my comcast is up ti 230. includes netflix including an extra $3 fro my kids living elsewhere to be able to use it. I agreed to 215 three years ago based on what i had to pay for DISH and Comcast internet combined. For those of us, like you I assume, who are older, there is a ease of convenience to regular TV service. Turn it on change the channel, turn it off. I'm flirting with cutting the cord if I can find a vehicle that can provide the same experience like HULU or FUBO, if and only if I have access to live local sports or live sports of my choice.

I much enjoyed DISH over how cable works. I find streaming services inconvenient. its probably just a personal preference based on doing something a certain way for 60 years. Oove the last 5 years or so we have found mnay series on streaming that we enjoy and I can see having my viewing habits no longer structured around "prime time". We record a lot as it is. But if I cant watch live sports, I may just pay for it until I can't.

on the trout stamp: i grew up around a lot of people that complained that all the money went to stocking trout the didn't fish for. I think its a very deliberate attempt to focus funds toward a specific purpose.

I fish for trout so I pay it. Makes it a little more transparent.

I find 72 MPH to be a very comfortable speed on highways. I know the risks and choices involved in that too.

I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I've certainly accepted that nothing major will be changing anytime soon in the way the PFBC does things.

Dear tom,

I quit Comcast 5 years ago when it went to $ 229.00 a month for the Triple-Play package with no premium services. I had a landline as part of the triple play because cell service was terrible where I lived. I switched to FIOS for internet and got YouTube TV and kept the VOIP home phone with FIOS. I added Netflix and Disney/ESPN Plus with no commercials and the total bill was about $ 185.00.

But that was when YouTube TV was $ 59.99 for life. It's since risen to just shy of $ 90.00 a month. Netfilx and Disney Plus also went up about $ 20.00 between them. I checked around and HULU with the Disney Plus bundle special and Netflix was about $ 20.00 a month less than the YouTube so I switched. I'm happy with it but if they start jacking things up every year I'll look elsewhere. In the meantime, we vacation at a lot of AirBNB's and VRBO places that have smart TV's. We just sign in with our home acount and watch like we were at home.

Also check to see if Verizon FIOS internet is available in your area. If you combine internet with cell service they give away several streaming services as part of the enticement to switch. The default internet where I live is Xfinity, but when FIOS became available where I live, I switched and had zero issues.

Fios is not an option. Verizon refuses to upgrade their infrastructure in our area. They do offer DSL 🤣

Dear Tom,

That sucks! Xfinity/Comcast is literally a monopoly locally and the first chance I got to flee I did. I had been a loyal customer for over 20 years for them too. But when they said I had to pay $ 229.00 a month for the exact same deal that they were offering to new subscribers for $ 99.00 month I dropped my Comcast equipment on the customer service desk and told them to "póg mo thóin" and left.

I'll go without internet before I return to Xfinity.

It really is quite the racket. Xfinity/Comcast are a monopoly in my area (SE Pa) too. I've also been a Comcast customer for over 20 years. You'd think such a devoted customer would get some sort of a discount for that kind of long term patronage. I'll be looking to downgrade my suscription if I can still get the basic channels I usually watch.
Love that Irish phrase. 😉

How long until you are considered a new subscriber again?

I recently dropped comcast/xfinity for the same reasons listed here, had a chance to get a 5g box through a verizon cellular for a pretty reasonable price (about 1/3 of the xfinity price). Upon cancelling I got atleast 2 doz calls from comcast, they eventually were beating the internet price from verizon, but I am done with them for a while. Why they jack up the prices on existing customers then offer the world when you cancel, I have no idea.

I blame local gov't for the monopoly where it exists. Our twp. sells a "franchise" to a provider. So Comcast pays our twp a "franchise fee" to be the only cable company basically. My mom lives neat Allentown and they have their choice of 2 or 3, Comcast, RCN and Verizon i think. could be more. I liked DISH a lot but they took away the local sports channels. which is one the only reasons I subscribe to anything. Now they send me $500 gift cards to lure me back.
