In the town of Blossburg, the river has been confined within concrete barriers in a few locations, as is common in many towns. There are several concrete "drops" as well, placed at an angle to allow for the drop in the river.
The river runs free of any man made confinement until it flows into the town of Mansfield. The US Army Corp of Engineers built dikes through Mansfield as part of the Tioga-Hammond flood control project. The river doesn't really begin to channel between the dikes until it is just south of the Elementary school ,(the Tioga flows north). The dikes continue until just north of town where the river returns to its natural flow. It flows natural until it reaches the Tioga Lake near the Lambs Creek recreation area.
