The Annual Paflyfish Spring Jamboree is set for May 19-21, 2023

Friday, May 19 is the start of our meetup for the Paflyfish Spring Jamboree Weekend at the Seven Mountains Campground. This is our annual get-together for members of the site to fly fish, tie flies, camp, and share a few stories. We have a lot of fun fishing over some of Pennsylvania's finest streams including the Little J, Penns Creek, Spring Creek, Fishing Creek, and plenty more in the region.

The pavilion at Seven Mountains Campground is rented by Paflyfish and is used as a meeting point during the weekend. Plenty of impromptu conversations, fly-tying, and meet-ups occur at the pavilion.

The weekend is a casual event with fly fishing in a great region of Pennsylvania. As with every year, we will be meeting up in the evenings at the pavilion to catch up on the day's fishing trips. Friday and Saturday mornings we meet for coffee and plan the day. Often plenty of opportunities for some fly tying and casting lessons are shared.

At this time, we will not be going to plan any special speakers or activities. That could change, but there is always plenty of impromptu fly tying, casting lessons, and support on where to fish. So if you are unsure about the area, do not worry there are plenty of members from the site that can help get you started.

The early forecast is looking pretty good. The chance of showers on Saturday is NBD. We’ve had blistering heat and monsoons this weekend, so a forecast like this is a blessing!

It's a long way off and will change.

But gfs model is showing a solid line of heavy rain Saturday dinnertimish. Not the soft rain all day type, but the start with a deluge for 15 minutes, back off to "just" rain for an hr or two, and gone type.

I have been approached a couple of times from Seven Mountain Campgrounds about the conduct of some people in our group last year. They have specifically asked me to inform the group that the late-night noise and activity was a problem. They are warning us now, they do not want a repeat of last year. I'm sure it was a small group of people, but want to make it clear about the issue. Maybe moving some of the those activities inside a cabin will help, but you will have to use good judgement on the issue and how to avoid the issue on your own. If you need clarification please talk with the Seven Mountain Campgrounds Manager.

"-Quiet hours are from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. During quiet hours, no loud music or any other type of disturbances will be allowed. Please be respectful of others staying at the campground and honor the quiet hours. If quiet hours are not followed, you will be required to leave the campground."

Please understand and follow the rules as set by Seven Mountains Campground. Thank you :)

Sounds like you guys had a better time (even more so than usual) last year. I shoulda been there.

I don’t ever remember us being what I would call “quiet”, but rules is rules.

The new owners took over about three years ago. The seemed tolerant of everyone the first couple of years, but more vocal about this kind of issue recently. In May of 2020 the place seemed like a big party all over the place. Not just us PAFFer's, but other campers too. It was a lot of fun. Their approach has changed to more of one the most campgrounds likely follow. It's fair, as it is a private campground, their rules and they are giving us notice about the issue before we arrive.

I'm not sure the cutoff is actually 11:00 PM, but I'm pretty sure 2:00 AM won't work anymore.

The hard part with fishermen in May is we don't even get there till 11 p.m. Honestly last year at the pavillion, I got there a few minutes before 11 and it was pretty empty. I might have even turned on the lights. By 11:30 it was full and people were still rolling in.

You fish till after 9, gotta walk out, get waders off, pretty much everyone has at least a half hr drive back, some more than an hr. Pull in somewhere between 10 and 11 and gotta hang waders, grab a sammich, organize drinks, etc.

I'm kinda in the "I can't see us being earlier, but there's some loud carrying on that could be toned down" camp. If thats not good enough maybe we gotta find a new location.

This was the same issue that got us kicked out of Hemlock Acres.

What are the options? I do get the feeling that things have changed quite a bit with the new owners (not knocking, it's their business after all).

The best option would be to keep it down. Have some respect for other people, especially Dave Kile who asked nicely, and keep it down to a dull roar.

Agree. Booze seems to act like a loud speaker for a lot of folks.
