Hi everyone.
Going through some of my dad’s things today and came across this guide and large laminated map that shows all streams and watersheds in PA.
Having moved away from PA in the mid 80s, I had no idea this was in existence. As a lover of maps it’s pretty fascinating to me. I wish I had uncovered it back in January to pass the winter hours.
Anyway, just wondering who out there is familiar with it. The copyright is 1996 and I’m wondering if it was ever updated with color coding of the different streams based on the trout stream classifications etc.
Maybe the digital age of mapping just left it in the dust.
Thanks. TD

It's a nice map almost a work of art. I have mine in the fililng cabinet and that's where it's been for nearly thirty years. If I remember corectly, roads aren't included on the map. Perhaps as you said, Google maps and such have taken its place.

Mine appears to be in the tube it was mailed in, and I hope to display it one day like tomgamber has.
Rich you are correct, there are no roads shown on the map.

I have one of the originals that I got when I was a kid.

Then it is probably a Penn State edition.

I think the re-prints from a private company began in the 1990s.

As I recall Penn State used to charge around $4 for the maps.
If I remember correctly, I paid $1.00 for mine in 1965.

Dear troubert,

I bought mine back at PSU in the early 1980's along with a map of wild trout waters. I think I have about $ 6.00 invested in both maps.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I used to have that Higbee stream map on my wall, which I almost never referenced. It looked good though. 🙂
I do recall it being quite detailed, even with many of the small tribs named.

We had a Higbee stream map on the wall at the office. It was the version that showed the River Basins, sub-basins and sub-sub-basins outlined and designated by number for the sub-basin and by letter beginning with the letter A for each sub-sub-basin within a sub-basin. Well-used, as document files were organized by sub-sub-basin.

I have a Higbee map still in the tube. @tomgamber that looks great. I should hang mine up too.
The whole thing was a gift from my wife. Used to be behind me on the opposite wall. When we made it a library/tying room I put it right above the desk. That picture is actually a few years old. Haven't used that vice for awhile.
