Saltwater Jam - Sandy Hook: 11-17-2013

to be honest this year has kinda sucked as well. two years ago it was great. I think it has something to do with the storm. the bait is on the beach the conditions a ok, there is just a lack of willing fish that will come to shore. I talked to a guy who was out on a boat and he told me they limited out in 15 minutes. then he lost count after the 50th fish.

some pictures from the jam

Thanks for the reports.

SW fishing in the surf is more about being in the right place at the right time than any other type of fishing, IMO. The ocean is a big place. I've been skunked a lot more times than I've been successful.

Congrats to all for getting out there and giving it a go. And a big OORAH! to Fred for catching his first keeper bass. Well deserved after putting a lot of time, casts and mileage on his boots. We can now drop the "Shortie Fred" title....;-)

Thxs Tom the fish measured 34" and is my biggest fish caught on the fly rod. Saltwater fishing can be tricky but you have to fish were the fish are you can't be scared to move to a different area . So far I have been lucky I almost always catch fish but they aren't always stripers . Then again I always move around, on Friday I got there early and fished every spot on the tip of the park to find the fish for everyone and it definitely paid off .

Guys looked like a fun Jam and some really nice pics. Fred congrats on the 34 incher. Good weather and catching fish what a day!

THxs Dave can we expect you to come next year :-D

wow, some nice fish there.

I always want to come down to this but never seem to make it. Anybody going down in December at all?

ocean temps in the mid to high 40's. lots of rats being caught nothing that much size. boat guys are still killing the bigger bass but its always like that this time of year.
