Recent Rain

Looks like December was kind to the Delaware Valley with 3-4 inches of precipitation. The January forecast is showing a cold snap (Polar Vortex). Lord I do love weather terminology! Also several weather models are showing significant snowfall around January 8-11. Let’s hear it for bomb cyclone, thunder snow, arctic express and others. BTW Happy New Year to all on this site.

South Jersey is still in a drought. Yesterday we received between .8 - 1.1 inches of rainfall. Still need much more.

In South Jersey we have been experiencing brush fires.

I was walking upper Middle Creek in Lancaster County. They haven't stocked yet. Thankfully. It is super low. The nice hole across from my mom's that usually gets a few buckets was 3 inches deep and filled with leaves. No suckers. No minnows.

this isn't looking good... there have been brush fires in nearby communities due to the extremely dry conditions and low humidity. doesn't take much to start one. looks like they've scaled back the predicted amount for this Sundays rain.

the past 365 day chart is even worse in the SE/E part of PA and into Jersey

So go figure. I’m about to break the seal on the season for a trip to the Poconos on Sunday and it’s supposed to rain. Hopefully the fish won’t care.

People are morons. I'm driving to go fishing this morning and what do I see? Someone just down the road has a massive fire raging in the woods behind their house. Why are people so stubborn to listen? We, too, have had lots of fires around, yet people keep burning!

I was fishing the Swatty a little while ago and two guys come down to fish and immediately start gathering up twigs and branches for a fire. The one guy was fly fishing so he should know better! Bone dry around here.

To the best of my knowledge in my neck of the woods. ONE, possibly TWO townships have burn bans in effect. If nothing else, that would be a smart start...

Is it REALLY such a hardship NOT to be able to burn...

Heck, last year during the height of the drought when there was a burn ban in effect I wouldn't even use my charcoal grill because it is nothing but woods all around me...

Now THAT'S a hardship!! 😉

Burn bans are are typical this time of year. Lots of dead grass and brush from last year and all vegetation is still dormant.

State forests always have spring burn bans for campers.

With that said, much of the state could use a long, soaking drink.

Yeah, the trout don't mind getting wet. 🙂 From what I've heard, the heavy rain isn't supposed to arrive until late in the day (3:00pm ish) Sunday. We'll see.

Still looks like an 3/4-1.5 in Harrisburg area.
Still I will expect the worst.
