making a leader?

i have a few butt ends and would like to make some leaders. butt ends are from a 5x leader. what diamater graduations would you do to end up with a .005 tippet? and about how long for each section ? the butt measures .018

Depends on the length of the starting piece. If you're going for a 9 ft leader and are starting with a 5 foot butt, I'd tie on 1 foot of 0X, 1 foot of 3X and 2 feet of 5X.

get yer self a block of wood and a couple of alligator clips and build one of these. Mske leaders building and repair very easy.
