Hello! I was fishing the Breeches last night (I was mindful of the water temperatures don't worry) and was wondering what the large dark mayflies were that were hatching at dusk? I don't have a picture unfortunately, but another fisherman that I talked to said that they were hexagenias. What species of hexagenia might they have been? They were dark brown and approximately as long as a size 8 long shank hook.

There are Hexagenia limbata in Breeches and based on the size description I'd guess that's what you saw.
You'd have to get a good photo to confirm.

They don’t fall till LATE LATE sometimes i spoke to an angler the other night and they waited till 11pm and they still hadn’t fallen on the breeches and they had to leave to work next day.
