When I posted a stream report about the Breeches back in Jan. the very next time I went was right after the 1st snow storm and only one other car was there. Through a little discussion it was learned that this fellow was there because of some fellow named Squaretail on a flyfishing board, which he revealed he was not a member but a lurker.
Though it did no harm that day, it did confirm that people DO just use this site to their advantage and nothing else. That was a heck of a coincedence and I'm sure it means a LOT of people do the same.
I'm with the men in the middle. The "small places" can remain for those who seek them out.
Jack- those posts are a thing of beauty.

Dryflyguy,

Internet blogging has a way of making people seem like they disagree more than we actually do.

As far as Ohio Brook Trout go, its actually exciting from a conservation perspective. This who project was started by a group of gradschoolers several years ago. It involved a great deal of publicity, landowner education, multiple conservation groups, and the EPA. There is now a plan and reintroductions have been started for this distinct genetic strain of Brook Trout.

What this project didn't involve was any fishing. Why it may techniquely be legal to catch and realsease Ohio brook trout I don't do it because I have talked with several ODNR officials and their intent is that this population not be targeted at all as a sportfish. Furthermore, i'd imagine its crummy fishing, something I wouldn't do myself or reccomend to anyone.

Likewise, when I fish PA streams, I only target approved trout waters, designated wilderness streams, or those unlisted streams class B or better. I do this for two reasons. Those streams that are on the list will provide me with a decent fishing experience in terms of catching fish and that fishery can withstand the fishing pressure, even if its just me.

I see no sense in marching up and down the side of a hill with my fishing rod and bothering a bunch of small fish that really need to just be left alone.

So when I say I will share locations, I'm talking about the places I fish myself, not the marginal, struggling fisheries that we all should protect and perhaps not fish at all.

The reason I hopped in on this discussion is Concerned Angler hopped on bigjohn for talking about a stocked approved trout water which is just conterproductive on a number of levels.

If someone is fishing on "your" water because on a internet site, my reaction is great, someone else is fishing and not siting at home watching the TV and having nothing to do with the outdoors. These loafers are the people that turn into the people like the ones in my homeowners association who ban fishing in the neighborhood ponds and call animal control on deer and wild turkeys. Yes, I do get annoyed briefly when someone is in a hole I scouted out, but then go on and find another, sometimes new, often better place to fish. There is so much water out there if your willing to hoof it a half a mile away from the roads.

Now you've done it. You've hit a hot button.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I grew up in the country, but I did the suburban subdivision thing for many years. Too many years. That is why I bought a farm. Those poor bastages don't have a clue why I would want to live that far out in the country away from "civilization." I did it to save my sanity. I hope i wasn't too late. :-D

The association rule book where I used to live is actually thicker than the phone book where i live now.

I remember one day at the old place where I was out in my front yard and I looked up and saw a bald eagle circling overhead. I looked around to see if anyone else noticed it. This was on a weekend, and there were probably a couple dozen people out and about, and not a single one of them was looking up.

Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses.

They had a big lake there too. Don't get me started on that.

Disclaimer: This was not meant as a slam against all suburbanites or subdivisions.
