I see they list it as a hatch on some of the charts for the uper D. We'll be camping/floating near Barryville NY mid August. Has anyone had success with this hatch in that area? Of course im talking smallies here. any tips would be great.

thanks
Jeff

I've seen them on the upper main stem, so they are there. It was pretty sparse. I'd imagine it gets pretty heavy down in the WW sections of the river.

I like the Zebra caddis more it brings up the big tiger trout on the lower river along with the smallies.

Dear Jeff,

Can't speak about Barryville, but a size 8 or 10 white popper will fool plenty of smallmouth.

Based on my experiences fishing the white fly hatch on the Susquehanna in NY you don't want to fish for the rising fish, you want to fish for the fish that are eating the risers.

If you make it a 2 or 1/0 you might fool one worth catching.

On a side note, don't wear anything blue when the white flies are on, they'll be all over you! ;-)

Regards,

Tim Murphy :)
