Whatever you call it…that looks like it will catch fish!Back at it, tying with some stuff Salmo sent me. Big thanks. First shot at a dry fly. Tried to make a WD-40 but didnt have the right stuff so I made a Ggrove version. Improving.
Very coolMarch Brown
This is a pretty basic perky dry pattern that is intended for a little more riffly / run broken type water but will also work on the flat.
Seriously nothing special, just a pretty cool combo of materials to get there and it's what I was tying last night trying to fill some holes. I'll post a "cripple" version another day when I'm tying a few.
Hook - #10 - 2xl dry fly of your choice. (Finished body tail to head should be between 14-16mm
Hackle - Its a golden brown / olivey sort of dyed grizzly. Just makes a perfect tone and speckling on the finished fly vs the standard mix of brown/ grizzly. I like it. LOL
Body - Fred Reese's Poly Silk #7 "March Brown" , Naturals are pretty golden when viewed from below so this might look lighter than some other March Brown dries you've seen.
Tails - Brown Micro-fibbets - 5 to a side tied split
Thread - UTC 70 / Tan
Tied split wing , brushed out and trimmed to shape. The Puglisi trigger point stuff is a pretty nifty material. Doesn't absorb water and is super light. The "March Brown" color I think is intended to be used for the body but is darker than I like when wrapped and makes a better wing color. Some of the other colors he has are great for wrapped bodies though....particularly the sulphur colors.
2 hackles - leaning on a size #8 to stabilize the wings. Approx 4 wraps forward and front of the wings. Don't wrap through the wings. Finally trimmed underneath to within about 1/8 of the body to let it sit a little flatter and more level.

Yes. Its a little on the pricey side but a nice and easy to work with material that doesn't get bogged down. I have a bunch of the colors and really like it. Lt Dun for Sulphur wings, Dark for Hendricksons etc. What is your split wing made of? EP fibers??
