I tie them both ways, but found no real difference in catch rate.

Kept the wing case but dropped the legs.

I tie a lot of mine on size 16 or 18 scud hooks, too. I just tie on a pheasant tail, wind pheasant tail for the body and gold wire for the ribbing. I finish by tying on a piece or 2 of peacock herl, or dub with synthetic peacock herl. I guess it's sort of a guide's kind of tie.

Still trying (and failing) for pike. Moved a big fish way up in the weeds Friday - just moved in the opposite direction of my fly 🤣

Tying some weedless meat with bucktail and maybe caribou in hopes I get a few more tin boat days in.
