Top 10 Trout Streams in PA (only name brands)

The Tastykake of today is nothing like the one of the past. Even twenty years ago they were much tastier.
I would buy 4 raisin oatmeal bars for $1.00 in 1980s. They were very good.

Tasty Kake pies suck too. Used to love their French Apple Pie. Now the pies have maybe a tablespoon of filling an the crust is just a hollow pocket to hold the little filling there is..

None the less, I now pretty much lay off any sweets, refined carbs and pastries so the above review is a bit dated.

I was never a fan of cake frosting as a kid (still hate it) and I loathed birthday cake so my mom used to make me un-frosted cupcakes however....

Butterscotch Krimpets, or Tastykake Chocolate Cupcakes left in the fridge overnight so the frosting got firm and fudge-like were tolerable. I never was a fan of the Juniors because the frosting wasn't the same consistency and the frosting between the layers was whipped.

As a kid, I hated coconut but love it now but I still wouldn't eat a Tastykake Coconut Junior on a bet... 🙂

There were also Drakes fruit pies that were deep fried and had an icing glaze on them. The Ohio Amish country’s “fry pies” remind me of them. Not a big fan of them...

Drakes made Yodel's and Funny Bones. They were nasty, but my mom bought them for me ONCE: 😉

Same here. My wife asked me what kind of cake I want for my birthday (turning the double nickel next weekend). Chocolate or marble, preferably unfrosted or at the most a light scratch coat. Cake frosting just is not my thing. My dad used to eat it plain from the tub! The little quirks of people living in the same environment. 🙂

I agree with the above views on tastykakes and sweets in general. I was trying to lose weight a few months back and cut out all sugar. Walked 4 miles a day and within a week started dropping the pounds. I want to get back to it....
BUT
I recently made two mince meat pies with a pie filling I got at a farmers market. It contained beef suet which is in the traditional recipes I have seen. I added some apples to the mixture. It is my favorite pie. When they are all gone I am getting back to my plan!

I think frosting today is just way too sweet.
I prefer whipped cream or just plain power sugar, but homemade pies are much better than any cakes.
If you are into pies and ever fish the Perkiomen Creek near Pennsburg, stop at the Strawberry Restaurant on Rt 663. All pies are homemade on the premises and are really good. My favorites are the berry pies.

Favorite pies, are sweet potato, any fruit and rhubarb, and shoo fly. Haven't had any in about 3 years.

Dont really miss them and feel much better. Sugar, refined carbohydrates and seed oils are really poisons.

My favorite is coconut custard or strawberry rhubarb.

Shoo fly is shoo Bamboozle, WAY too sweet for me...

Butterscotch Krimpets are my Tasty Cakes of choice too. Really the only ones I buy. I don’t have a huge sweet tooth (other than Perry’s ice cream) so they’re probably only a once or twice a year purchase for me. Whenever I buy them, I get a Red Bull with them…blood sugar must be oddly low the one or two times a year I get a hankering for that combo. Don’t tell my Dr.

They really are, and they are in everything. You dont realize it untip you start to look. Heres a random one. Go to the grocery store abd try to find ice cream that doesnt have oils in it. Other than the turkey hill natural with 5 ingrdients your choices are extremely limited. Its shocking once you start paying attention

If you want a revelation about ice cream, go to some quaint ice cream "parlor" and see if they sell their ice cream packaged. If they do, read the ingredients list...

I did that once at a very well known local establishment as I getting ready to buy some vanilla ice cream. The list of ingredients was staggering and this is a product with local distribution only...

We don't eat packaged ice cream often, but when I do it's vanilla or coffee and the same ice cream I've been eating for decades, Häagen-Dazs with only cream, milk, eggs, sugar and Madagascar vanilla in their vanilla and it is distributed nationally.
