Top 10 Trout Streams in PA (only name brands)

Well, I ate Taylor pork roll with one egg over hard topped with melted Cooper. I am not a huge fan of ketchup, but that is apparently the topping of choice, so I put it on. It was okay, but I think I like Spam more.
Dear jifigz,

Next time try some of these on your fried egg sandwich.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

We love picked sliced jalapenos in our household, but I have never bought the sliced hot cherry peppers before. I will say though that the worst brand of pickled jalapenos that we have hard are Mezzeta. We are still currenlty eating that jar. They are awful. No spice. No vinegar. No nothing. The jar is almost empty, thank goodness.

Lose the ketchup IMO. And try some other brands, when you find them. I like em’ all, but Taylor is the one I’m least likely to buy, if given a choice. Most stores outside of the Jersey/Philly area that do carry it though, typically only carry one brand. Taylor probably being most common.

Dear jifigz,

It wasn't so much a brand recommendation as it was a condiment to try. I like to fry pork chops seasoned with Kosher salt and coarse black pepper in a pan brushed with olive oil and add sliced cherry peppers on them as they fry. Pork chops w/vinegar peppers are the shizzle. 😉

I actually make my own cherry peppers when I can get enough of them. They are quite easy to prepare and if you jar them hot with new lids for the Ball jars they'll keep a long time once cooled in a kitchen cabinet or pantry. My old departed Italian buddy taught me to make them the only way, HIS WAY!

Tim Murphy 🙂

This thread must be among the most derailed threads in PAFF history.
Yeah, but it has been a good thread. Do you want to know what has made it great? There is no arguing or fighting. It is just a pleasant conversation moving from one food topic to the next, and who doesn't love eating?

So, at the next WW Jam in August, should we have pork roll and egg sandwiches for breakfast? Since there are chickens right there on the property, we don't even need to worry about the cost of $10 a dozen eggs to feed us hungry fishermen!!!

Definitely lose the ketchup on pork roll...

As opposed to catsup that is only used on Taylor Ham. 😉

If you are ketchup or catsup fan, instead try and get some Amish catsup, especially pepper catsup if you can find it.

There is a small store/deli/gas station near me that makes a killer breakfast sandwich called the Berks County Special with sausage, bacon, tavern ham, cheddar, Cooper, two eggs & black pepper ketchup on thick sliced toasted bread...

It is insanely good!!!

Well, we did argue a little bit about pork roll vs Taylor Ham, Processed American Cheese, Cooper versus Boar's Head, Taylor Pork roll versus Hatfield vs Case, hoagies and what makes the difference and the merits of Velveeta or Tang hot & cold... 🙂

I also believe WAY, WAY, BACK somewhere at the beginning of this thread there might even be some bickering about the top 10 trout streams in PA.

Dear jifigz,

If you do hit a Weis Market, see if you can find a loaf of their Artisan Everything sourdough bread.

It is awesome for breakfast sandwiches and regular sandwiches too. It's just like an everything bagel, but bread!

I am a much bigger fan of fresh jalapenos because of the crunch and love them on a burger.

As far as cherry peppers go, I love the WHOLE cherry peppers better because they stay crunchier with the green peppers being crunchier than the red.

The problem is finding them. From Covid onward I couldn't find WHOLE HOT cherry peppers in any store where I shopped except the Cento brand at Weis is I guess is a good thing because they are lower in sodium versus other brands.

The bad news is Weis is one of the most expensive stores.

Fellas, hold yer horses. First of all, mustard is by far a better condiment choice in my mind than was ketchup for the pork roll sandwich, but I went down the rabbit hole of researching, and it seems that ketchup is the recommended New Jersey way, so I wet for it.

Secondly, all mayos are edible and fine, and between Duke's or Helman's I don't really care. I can eat either.

Thirdly, Tim I am almost directly beside a Weis market right now. Maybe I will swing over at the end of my work day....
