Top 10 Trout Streams in PA (only name brands)

Are there good breakfast joints around those creeks?
It's been so long since I've been to those places I couldn't tell you (and to be honest, I'm never sure I fished Darby Creek). I used to get a good breakfast on the Wissahickon at the Valley Green Inn before the place turned upscale. Croydon Diner was the only place I had breakfast near the Neshaminy. Nothing special. However, Goodnoe's Dairy was the place to get ice cream near the Neshaminy. It is now closed. They used to have a 'Pigs Dinner' which was an amalgamation of about 10 different ice cream flavors, topped with a fresh banana and strawberries. And why hasn't this thread swerved over to ice cream or cannolis?

Jake’s Eatery in Newtown is a place I like for breakfast when visiting family. Pork Roll, scrapple, and creamed chipped beef all on the menu. Neshaminy Creek at Tyler State Park right over the hill.

Gonna spot burn here. Out of state but still within casting distance of NEPA. The West Branch of the Delaware above the Cannonsville Reservoir has some intermittent locations where wild brown trout reside among the stockies, some to 16 inches. Some good size fallfish in the area, too. The covered bridge at Hamden and the boat ramp in Walton are good places to prospect. But the reason you go is the Blue Bee Cafe in Delhi. Fashioned after a New York Deli, this place has scrumptious breakfasts and its own bakery. If you go in the fall, their pumpkin cupcakes are literally to die for. Now we're almost back on track. Wrong state, right pew. Carry on.

Dear Oregon-OwIll,

Now you are bringing back memories. When you got off Rte. 17 at East Branch to head to Downsville up Rte. 30 there was some gas station like place that had great breakfast sandwiches and decent "Hoagies" for a place that didn't even know what a hoagie was.

But when you got all the way to Downsville there was a place on Rte. 30 right after you turned right in town. I can't remember that name of the place, but it was a brown wood sided building. It was kind of like a small-town grocery store, but it had great sandwiches and all kinds of beef jerky and meat snacks. I don't think I ever drove by there and didn't stop to grab something!

It was part of my Delaware County NY sales route when I called on the bluestone quarries. I'd head to Margaretville, and then back to Delhi. From there I go back to Oneonta and Brooks BBQ where I'd pick up a couple of 1/2 chickens and fry baskets and eat them on the way back home to Broome County tossing the bones out the window. 😉

I had to wear a dress shirt, dress pants and a tie on the job. Many times, I stopped to fish and looked like even a bigger dork than I am, but I didn't care! 😉

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I hadn't heard SOS mentioned in a looong time. Love me some 💩 on a shingle.

My brother's late father-in-law made the best I ever had, it was a staple before the Farm Show. Fortunately my brother has the recipe and has carried on the tradition. It has now become a staple on the annual brothers/nephews camping trip.

My brother's father-in-law was a retired colonel in the Army Reserves and made his version with chipped beef. He insisted that in the Army, SOS was made with ground beef, not chipped beef. It got the SOS nickname because the ground beef looked the part... 💩

If he was correct, I guess I never had SOS, only creamed chipped beef on toast...

Or this could turn into another Taylor Ham vs pork roll debate. 😉

Bam, if you are ever down in Montco PA near the border with Bucks Co, town called Hatboro. Diner called Daddy Pops. Biscuits and gravy, EPIC.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind the next time I'm down in that neck of the woods.

The best biscuits & gravy I ever had was at a bed in breakfast we stayed at in Gatlinburg, TN that sadly was lost in the 2016 Gatlinburg wildfires. Not only was the gravy luscious and biscuit freshly baked, there was country sausage baked INSIDE of the biscuit. YUM!

I can't help much with the Wissahickon or Neshaminy Creeks, but I'll heartily recommend the Havertown Grille in the Oakmont section of Havertown or Ming's Coffee & Tea in Drexel Hill for a pre-Darby Creek excursion. Both are excellent and small so they DO get crowded.

If you want to add Valley or Pickering Creek into the mix, the Nook & Kranny Kafe in Phoenixville is awesome and BYOB if you want a Bloody May with that omelet!! 😉

What's the roll if not Amoroso's?

Sarcone's, Liscio's, Carangi, Cacia's and Aversa & Fontana Panetteria in Jersey are all 1000 times better than Amoroso which is barely a notch above a supermarket roll...

Which I guess is why they sell Amaroso in supermarkets. 😉

I get dried beef made out a couple of hindquarters of venison every year. I've tried a few different places but Dietrich's meats in Krumsville is hands down the best. Makes superb creamed dry beef. We have it often for dinner over rice or fried potatoes.

me luv sos...it's pretty much a standard Sunday breakfast served on toasted dave's killer bread at our house.
beef comes from the amish at the farmer's market. it can be on the salty side so we rinse it a bit which to my taste makes it perfect.
i'm getting hungry.

Working from home today. All this breakfast talk had me splurge this morning. Didn’t have any bagels or English muffins, so did a burrito. Scrambled eggs, two sausage patties browned and broken up, Cooper, onions, Jalaps. Usually put a couple tater tots in, but didn’t have any. I was ill-prepared for a mid work week breakfast.

Mom made a good sos dried chipped beef been a while so I had that.

This guys has magical powers! He turns venison into beef. I much prefer beef to venison. The fella that can do this could become very rich!

I'm just bustin' yer' stones!

Dietrich's Meats makes football shaped Lebanon Bologna for Super Bowl parties so I'd say they have some magical powers: 😉

Yum!.jpg

BTW - They sell their own pork roll and call it pork roll too! 😎

My understanding is in the military they just use ground beef. Chipped, dried beef is what makes it good. Regardless, BC Hash, Scrapple, SOS...i need a big runny egg to turn it into gold. My latest breakfast thing is classic french lentils with a couple of poachers.
