Top 10 Trout Streams in PA (only name brands)

Dear jifigz,

We must be hogs from the same litter of piglets. 😉 Kunzler's is mushy goo. I'll add that sweet bologna of any kind is an abomination though YMMV. Weaver's regular Lebanon bologna is pretty good too.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂
Bombergers used to be the best until they changed hands. Gotta agree with the Seltzers. And sweet bologna should be outlawed by the FDA.

I really miss olive loaf. Very few stores have it anymore. Loved that stuff. I guess the demand just isn't there.
Dear wildtrout2,

I was literally eyeballing a loaf of it at the local Weis while my lunchmeat was being sliced wondering who would buy it today? It's always here in the deli case.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Ever hear of souse or head cheese. Recall seeing it at local butcher shop back in late 60s early 70s. Haven't seen it since. Looked pretty nasty. Never tried it. I'm sure the demand is pretty low.

Besides they need raw materials for scrapple ie stuff not good enough for hot dogs

It's good stuff but I have to eat it in the cellar because my wife thinks it's "dead cheese."

Most PA Dutch butchers sell the stuff, the Krauts call it Sülze.

It's ironic, just a couple weeks ago I was at the deli counter in the local Giant store and a guy came in and asked if they had souse? I knew what it was, but I also knew the person behind the counter wouldn't. In fact, he looked at the customer like he had six heads. lol

The worker asked what it was, and after being enlightened, said they don't carry it. There is almost no demand for it, and understandably so. It's pretty gross, and I wouldn't eat that stuff if they gave it away.

Dear Tigereye,

I actually tried souse and found it to be very good. It's like a combination of pickled pigs' feet and the greasy Spam jelly, both of which I absolutely adore. 😉

I'll admit that it did give me a wee bit o' the wind though, and led to a request to leave the bar in that big limestone Hotel in Bellefonte PA that burned down about 10 or so years ago.

Maybe my residual gas fueled the fire?

Tim Murphy 🙂

I like mayo on a cheesesteak sometimes. One newer place in Maple Glen (by Ambler), Verona Pizza, offers their cheesesteak with Duke’s mayo if you want it. Super good. Definitely in my top 3 cheesesteaks.

I just got a cheese steak from there last week. Wow, that was really good. And it was absolutely 2 cheese steaks. I was absurdly full after eating only half of it for lunch. You local? I'm up the road in central Bucks

If you think it's gross, read a recipe on how it is made... 😉

Yum, boiled head!!

Native of the area? I am originally from Hazleton and worked at a Chemical Plant within walking distance of the festival

Rush or Ryan Twp?

I loved that festival and met a lot of folks who remained friends my entire life. Including myself I also know two other long time married couple who met at Barnesville.

I also met a guy who lived up the road in Hometown and we played music on the stage at the big beer "halle" between legitimate acts.

I have a TON of memorabilia from the festival all over my house.

Im going to reply to this, as I assume it is in reference to my comments.

I agree with you on many of your points. No, hoards of people aren't going to rush to a stream that is in the middle of nowhere in an area with no cell phone service and very little commodities around just because it is mentioned here. The reason I got upset is that the OP, who has a questionable history of fishing for information, actually went out of their way to mention to keep it name brand fisheries. Then, somehow the thread took a turn into discussing waterways that are mostly undiscussed, definitely not name brand, and from an area that is pretty near and dear to me. I just imagine myself showing up there this spring and seeing 1 or 2 anglers with go pros strapped to their heads and a microphone clipped to their Howler bros vest and the thought of that is disheartening to me. It actually already happened with a different channel doing a video in the same area and yes, I started seeing more traffic around there after that. It wasn't so much of "hey don’t talk about my creek", it was more of, "seriously, this area is coming up in this guys thread of all places?"

I just cant help but look at Traveling Trout Co's threads and seeing a guy that is playing the forum here like a fiddle.

To add, I also think that putting the names of these streams and areas here absolutely have more weight that most other places they are mentioned. If I see 5 or 6 creeks in an area on the PFBC maps, the first thing I do is search here for information to see if they have been mentioned here.
Thank you dudemanscpecial. You get it...
