I live in Colorado, and the cutthroat is the only native trout in this state. There is a big effort to conserve these fish, but not at the expense of the other species. The rainbow is protected here as much as cutts are. There are two tribs to the Roaring Fork River here that are closed to fishing for two months as rainbow spawning estuaries. The problem being that high spring runoff makes for difficult spawning conditions for these fish.

some states definitely have things right, I believe CO is one of them.

PS I sure miss fishing my PA limestoners.
