If you're in Central PA, what a snowfall, eh? I haven't seen a snowfall like this for a few years! This snowpack should have our streams riding high and fishing fine well into July! We can all rest easy thanks to a nice and thick mountain snowpack!

P.S. This post is intended for joke purposes only. I figured I would start it now since there seems to be an almost yearly implication that snowpack and the melting snow really matters regarding our PA streams. It doesn't. Carry on with your day, and please be safe and enjoy the snowfall responsibly!

I'm ready for spring and fishing!

Dear board,

I just shoveled 4 inches off the deck to take the dog out to do his business. That was about 30 minutes ago. You can't tell I did anything. It's snowing to beat the band here in the suburbs of Harrisburg.

Getting back to the original post if we got into March with 15 inches of snow cover that is equivalent of 1 to 2 inches of rainwater due to melting over time and compacting the snow. The ground is presently hard as concrete and will not get any softer in the next week or so.

If that all comes off at once on a 50-degree day with heavy rain it won't do anything. If it melts gradually over the month of March, then the water equivalent will have time to get into the groundwater where it does matter over the course of the year.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

Don't take this post so seriously, Tim!

in the words of Alan Greenspan... Irrational exuberance. If the snowpack is here in March, I agree. I don't want a wet April-May, we need wet June-July

Oh, boy! Joe, you're taking the conversation in that direction. Careful, folks. We are treading on the doorstep of another conversation that we repeatedly have over and over and over and over and over and over....

And years ago, they weren't what if's, they were considered normal.
