i'm in! Getting an Nfrecht fly and a Shenk's streamer is enough motivation. Not sure what i'll tie yet but i'll decide over the weekend when my wife moves her work **** out of my tying room. 🤣

WOW!!!
A full fly swap in less than 10 hours!!!

You all must be either:
1. Excited by streamers
2. Bored because it’s too cold and you aren’t fishing
3. Just want a fly from @nfrechet

But thank you all! Please expect a PM from me tomorrow with the details.

If you are all ok with it, and because this filled so fast, I’d like to move up the timeline. Is asking for your flies by February 1 too much? If no objection…let’s do that so I can start another swap around Valentine’s Day.

If you wanted to join in but didn’t make the first 10 please PM me. I’ll gladly run a second streamer swap if we can get another set of tyers.

Streamers are a bit more work so no need for extras this time.
However if you want to tie extras for donation to Project Healing Waters I will make sure they get to them.
I have plenty of materials and definitely need the practice, and will tie something in the small/micro streamer class. Thanks again!

That’s great. Thank you, Jim. I knew this one would fill up quick. Absolutely perfect time of the year for a swap and getting a fly from Norm is just really cool!

As for my pattern … the Shenk’s White Minnow is a very effective streamer pattern designed by the late Mr. Ed Shenk of Carlisle. He originally designed it to try to fool some of those big brownies in Letort Spring Run way back in the day. Personally I have found it to be an awesome Smallmouth pattern as well.

Over the years there have been a myriad of materials used to tie the body on this streamer - rabbit fur, arctic fox fur, ram’s wool, baby blanket yarn, various chenilles and brushes, or a blend of any of these, etc. Many years ago at the Lancaster Flyfishing Show I was fortunate to have the opportunity to have a personal one on one conversation with Mr. Shenk in the hallway outside of one of the program rooms. My question to Mr. Shenk was “what material do you recommend for the body on your White Minnow pattern”? He responded, “if you have it use Arctic Fox fur, it’s what I used when I originally designed the pattern and it performs really well when twisting it up in a dubbing loop”.

So I will be tying up my streamers using Arctic Fox fur. There will be no glitz or glamour with these streamers. Just white marabou tail for movement and the arctic fox fur spun in a loop and clipped to shape. They will be weighted a bit with some lead wire to help get them down into the water column. My plan is to tie them as close as I can to the way that Mr. Shenk designed it - a fly that the fish just love to “chew” on.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this swap develop and hope that the participants share a little bit with us all about the patterns that they chose to tie.

i'm still working on the pattern/color, but it will be something along the lines of this rag worm streamer. debarbed of course.

i'm impartial to style or brand

use the hooks you normally tie streamers on

So I want to put this out one more time..,

If you wanted to join in but didn’t make the first 10 please PM me. I’ll gladly run a second streamer swap if we can get another set of tyers.
