I recently acquired a South Bend bamboo(faux bamboo?) rod. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what weight it is. I've searched the forums and blogs and can't seem to answer it on my own. The rod is labeled No.23...8 1/2, use excel-oreno line,
HDH.D or GBF. Any idea what it's worth?

HDH.D is a 6DT line or 6 level. GBF is 8WF.

Thanks! Much appreciated.

That's a pretty old rod, as it has the fly line weights used before the current ones. Are you sure you want to fish it? It might be more valuable as a collector's item.

If it is round it is fiberglass, if it has flat sides it is cane.

if that rod is in good shape, by all means fish it. it's not worth enough to not fish it. not sure on south bend values right now, I've got a couple that get used every year.
if it needs some work, lots of folks here to steer you in the right direction.
