Sherman's Creek Smallmouth

I would like to make a trip to Sherman's Creek for smallmouth bass. My father used to talk a lot about fishing there in his youth, and we often talked about going down. But, it never happened; and now my father is gone. I know nothing about the stream other that studying over some road and topo maps. Can anyone suggest an area where I can find some decent smallmouth fishing. I want to take my nephew and fish the stream his "pap" talked about. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, any suggestions on appropriate flies would be appreciated.

I fished it once near where 850 and 34 intersect. It was a fairly small stream there (for smallie fishing), and I didn't see or hook into anything remarkable. I'm told the big pool behind the gas station in Shermansdale is a good spot, but I never made it back to try it out.
