Recently i have found myself wishing i had a place other than my armpit or the top of my waders to stash my rod when changing leaders, tippets, flies, occasionally unhooking fish, etc. I have a fishpond sling pack, but the one they make wont fit on the pack i have (summit).

I might just make one myself but i see there are options out there for belt style holders so i thought i would ask what folks on here were using for this before moving forward, thanks!

O'Pros 3rd Hand Rod Holder

Bought one a few months ago and have used it 3 or 4 times. Fits right on your belt, holds the rod tight, and works really well. Stays out of the way when not in use, seems pretty durable too. IMO it's a much better piece of equipment than the Smith Creek rod holder that dangles from your vest or pack.

I saw this gizmo at a fishing show earlier this year. Pretty clever and made in PA:

That thing is pretty cool. The mounting options and 360 rotation are great. Could even find a way to use it on my pack too I bet, thanks!

Buy it here to support a PA company and a huge supporter of the fly-fishing community.

The O'Pros clip is pretty cool but I'd be reluctant to be constantly snapping/forcing a cork grip in and out of those clips.

Eventually, you will chip the cork. Of course if you don't care it doesn't matter.

Cold bore

Are lively legs flies good quality? The price is right and i need to grab a bunch (i dont tie) so i might order the holder and a bunch of flies from them if the quality is legit

I've tried the holder's but I think it's just easier to tuck under arm. The stream I mostly fish is 10-20 ft across and there is a bunch of brush. Once you put the rod in a holder the tip is hard to be aware of and can get caught in things. I found it much easier with it under the arm.

They are a very good quality. And I love the realism of the molded legs. They are so much better than flopping rubber bands.

If you do a YouTube search, you'll find plenty of videos of the guys themselves tying them.

I currently have two of their "box collections". I cry a little every time I snag one on the bottom and lose it.

The guy who invented the fish hands free device stopped me on the stream once last year to pimp his product. I still have his business card he gave me.

Most fishing shirts have that small velcro strap on the chest. There should also be a small loop on the inside of the shirt. You hook the butt of your rod in the loop and velcro it at the chest to work hands free.

Vest have this element too.
